It seems like it wouldn't be too difficult to cut an adhesive label as a dial indicator, and then seal it, or an aluminum disc would work too. There are only four numbers on the dial with dots for the intermediate settings.

I realized last night that I only need one mark for "1" on the adjuster knob. I can use a simple red dot of Testor's. If the red dot matches the triangle on the handle then the razor is at "1". If the red dot is 180 degrees away from the triangle then the razor is at "5". If the red dot is 90 degrees away from the triangle then the razor is at "3". All settings can be approximated with just one reference point on the dial and one reference point on the handle. Problem solved. And it will look elegant like a Movado watch which only has one reference point at 12 o'clock. So it will look good, work as an adjuster and be waterproof.

Great idea to keep an old razor shaving!

Wow, I've spent exculsive time with the J1 (for a week) and I'm learning this razor well. It seems two passes with the Chinese Schick blade is perfect for a work day CCS!

    Loving the J1 injector!

With my birthday arriving in four months, I may ask my wife for the J type with the Hydro-magic lever. Because I love the I2 Hydro-magic, a Golden 500 would probably be my dream razor. The J1 shaves like a dream though, and I'm happy with it too.

I'm pondering using the Bic Sensitive disposable single edge tomorrow :)

I've been researching it on the shave forums and I'm intrigued by the reviews and thoughts on them, the Bic is pretty much in good standing everywhere!

I started shaving with Bic disposables - just the regular old ones which I'm not sure they make anymore. They shave a lot like an injector IMO.

Ordered a pack of Injector blades from EMS. Can't wait to use 'em! If they're good I will order 200 :)

I just used my 1924 and it was a bloodbath. My face has more holes in it than Bonnie and Clyde's car. That razor is out of my rotation permanently. I'll stick with GEM OCMM and GEM 1912 as far as SE goes. I have a few DE's and I'm good. I think I'd rather start spending money on the soaps and supporting the forum more.

My Dad, who always used an injector, gave me his Hydro-magic, and continued to use Schicks til he couldn't get injector blades locally anymore....He was right at 80 years old and he started using those Bics...said the same thing you just did...;)..."Great Minds"...

Well, it looks like I’ve encountered a RAD killer with this Schick J1 Injector.

Each day I find something new about how to use it. This morning I got a shave like my E2 in only 2.5 passes. The razor feels sooooo comfortable and I’ve started using short strokes, like buffing, on the first pass going XTG north to south. If I want a CCS I can stop after one pass. Two passes and it’s a DFS. This is just what I like! I think my improved lather has a lot to do with this too.

Ah, but have you tried the J3 or J4? They may provide an even better shave. [IMG]

I need to find a Damaskene in about two months when my move to California is done and I get all settled in.

I just bought a Gem featherweight with what looks to be an olive green handle on the bay for $11.20 with shipping. The description listed it as a Gillette razor (I guess because it has a G on the handle) with a black bakelite handle. I hadn't seen one with a green handle before, so I decided to take a gamble, we'll see what it looks like when I get it.
