Thanks for the info. This is my first experience with the ER24. Your insights will surely be helpful. I am looking forward to using it in my next rotation.

Very nice. The Clog-pruf is one of my favorite SEs. I have yet to try the G-bar.

+1 on what bird said about the sound. The top cap makes one heck of a sounding board, if I hadn't already read about it before I used mine it probably would have freaked me out:D.

I know...lmao! My wife was walking by the bathroom and heard my razor the day I first got my ER 1924 and 1914...She heard the '24 and came in to see what was going on...ha,ha.and then when I switched to the 1914 she said Wow! That ones just as loud but the first one has a prettier voice....lol....

Thats because that box type top acts like a reverb unit, or resonating chamber and actually gives it sustain...It actually sings....The 1914 is loud too but has more or a scary sound....like whenever Curly in the original 3 Stooges shaves with a Str8...the sound they use is the exact same loud scary sound...lol... They did kind of freak me out a little the first time I used them...Both were pretty aggressive too...But the 1924, which might even be a little more efficient is also very intuitive...I learned to trust it very quickly....No pressure, finger tip grip and she delivers everytime....

Thats the Gem G bar, also known as the HFT (heavy flat top) as I have been informed by the SE specialist's its a very nice shaver and very well plated.
And very cheap to buy as are most SE razors

That HFT is a sexy razor I'll give it that...;) and a very nice shaver...a bit on the mild side for an SE...
That Clog-pruf is on the opposite end of the spectrum...she is on the aggressive side but extremely well balanced. And the way she is designed, She kind of forces you to use perfect technique. You pretty much lay the head flat on you face and just lift it off the skin so it will slide...The handle is long and gives great control...

The TTO feature which predates Gillette's first TTO by 4 years, is very sophisticated. The head slides back and then opens, then you drop the blade in and put the edge under the front blade stops. When you turn the TTO knob to close, the top closes and the head ,robotically slides forward to lock the blade at the perfect angle and hold it tight against the blade stops. It's like an antenna-ed gadget from the Jetson's and is like an engineering feat.

This razor is one where the creative geniuses at GEM got everything right....a pretty perfect very close shaving razor...

Yes it did seem more aggressive as I mentioned, but it still had comfort with it, not cuts or weepers so I must of nail the technique first of, I did some research so I had an idea what I was doing with it.
so what SE's kinda sit between the 2 in terms of aggressiveness?

Sounds like you did nail it...I bet you two made beautiful music together...;)

I had some GEMs and ER's sitting on a shelf in my music room where I had been polishing them...A trumpet student dropped by to hang for a minute and when he saw the razors he asked if he could touch them, and I said yes...He walked right over; with big eyes; and picked up my shiny gold Clog-pruf and said, "This is the prettiest thing I've ever seen"....ha,ha another young man smitten by a shiny new looking Micromatic...They've been doing it for 70 years...lol...and they still got the magic!

I guess the 1912's would be smack dab in the middle....Everybody loves some of that GEM or ER or Star 1912 magic and the GEM Cutlery Damaskeene 1912 would be on the sweet side of the 1912's....She kind of charms the whiskers off....:D Extremely efficient while still very polite and gentile...But all the 1912's I've seen were keepers...;)
Thats the Damaskeene on the left followed by 2 other versions of the GEM 1912...Great Shavers All

You know, you posted a pic of your collection a couple years ago I believe...It would be great to see your favorites now...I imagine you'd need 'Cinemascope' to photograph the whole collection, but anything you'd like to show, I'm sure would knock plenty of us out...:D I know you have an eye for the pretty ones...

possibly the WORST shave I've ever had. Normally i use the ER flat against the face and experience wonderful smooth close shaves. This time I used the original instructions. YMMV but IMO these instructions are wrong! They say to hold the head at about 45 degrees from the face. I got the "buttering toast" sound I did not get while head flat against the face. As I was cutting my 2day goatee I was getting nothing but tugging and scraping and irritation. At least I got that nice sound :sad023:. In the end my chin felt raw and bloody. I finished off my sideburns with the method I normally use (and thats recommended by other SE razor instructions)-flat against the face. This more acute angle cut the hairs smoothly with no irritation.

Did my first SE shave today with the new G bar and rite aid blade. Not bad at all! Some minor irritation in my neck but an otherwise DFS!

Tomorrow I try out the heralded Damaskeene. Can't wait. I think I'm a single edge convert now. Time will tell.

Used my new gbar last night! This was my first SE experience. Absolutely great. Some irritation on the neck bit otherwise great. Nice weight and balance. Now to get some better blades!
