Not being familiar with them may be the issue. I remember when I started with SEs and injectors - I was not able to go an entire week just using them to shave with; always got razor burn after the second shave (and I shave every day). Over time my technique improved and now I am able to shave the whole week with SE or injector with no issues. Point - hang in there! You'll get it.
You do have to watch the blade angle with the injector. Luckily it's easy to get right if you hold the head of the razor flat against your face. It's tempting to let the handle drop though. Using no pressure also takes some getting used to with such a light razor. I admit I've messed up on those things a couple times but once you get the hang of it, the injector can give some great shaves. For me, the learning curve was shorter than it was with a DE.
It really IS tempting to drop the handle of the Injector while shaving, if I'm not paying attention that's what I do! My upper lip, chin area and neck are easiest for me to drop the handle, but using the Injector everyday really helps get it right once in awhile I have to review my technique because I get burn on my neck again, which means I have to be extra careful that I'm holding the Injector face flat Like FeeltheBurn says, that's the beauty of the Injector, it's easy to correct the angle!
Another great shave with the Hydro-magic today. Mixed up a nice slick lather, and used a re-branded Personna blade from EMS. The first time I tried this blade. Like most blades, the first shave is sometimes rough, but man, it cuts closer than the Schick blades and took less effort for a DFS. It is really sharp and reminds me of a Feather blade. Bird Lives has said these are sharp and sometimes take a couple shaves to smooth out. I’m glad the EMS blades is sharp and can’t wait to order 200 more soon! Overall, a great shave that feels great and refreshing as the day moves on. A good lather and a sharp blade make all the difference!
Also, I love to open the Hydro-magic to clean it, it feels cool! Taking the lever, pulling it up, watching the blade hang in place while I douse it with water. It’s a fine machine! I read the instructions on the back of a Hydro-magic NOS package to leave the head open to dry (until the next shave). So sometimes I do this too!
Thanks for the advice. I will give the injector another go tomorrow and really pay attention to blade angle.
Another fine morning with the Schick I2 Hydro-magic. The Personna blade is on its second day and smooth as silk. I’ve been going north to south and south to north, and I’m happy with the CCS I’m getting day after day. If I do touch up, it’s practically a DFS each time. Depends on my mood, but CCS is becoming the constant because it feels so comfortable during the day. And CSS, DFS and BBS looks the same on my face anyway! Yes, I’m becoming more enamored over the process than the final result! Aces!
Home after traveling and two burn free shaves with the E2. Thanks again for the advice! I was definitely dropping the handle.
6 or 7 shaves on my Personna blade and it's still going strong. We'll see if it makes it through the weekend.
Friday Hydro-magic with Schick blade (5) Preshave - Coral Skin Food Cream - C.O. Bigelow Brush - Omega Mighty Midget (Badger and Boar) Face Lather 3 pass shave Cold Water Rinse Proraso Green Aftershave I've been using the Hydromagic all week, it gives a very smooth, comfortable shave.
Saturday Hydro-magic with Schick blade (6) Preshave - Coral Skin Food Soap - MWF Brush - Omega Mighty Midget (Badger and Boar) Face Lather 3 pass shave Cold Water Rinse Lab Series Aftershave Spray A little burning on my cheeks after the shave, but no red. Might be due to 6 shaves with the same blade in the Hydro-magic. I guess I'll see tomorrow since I plan on using the Hydro-magic to finish Injector Week. All week with the same razor and blade, that's unusual for me.
Well, since it's the weekend, I decided to give SE's another chance. My first attempt with a Gem Feather Weight was an abysmal failure. But since then I got hold of a Clog-Pruf so I loaded a CVS branded Personna carbon blade and gave it a shot. I still got the same severe tugging I got with the FW so I guess it's the blades and not the razor. I picked up a pack of Gem Stainless blades from Walgreens so I may give those a shot tomorrow. If they don't work either, I guess I'll have a couple Gem razors and some blades to throw in the travelling box when it comes my way. But for today when the SE didn't work, I grabbed my Hydro-magic with either 7 or 8 shaves on the blade and it sliced through my whiskers like a hot knife through butter. Got a great BBS on the face and DFS on the neck.
As it is Saturday, it's my day for one of my str8 shaves. Not to worry, I didn't abandon Injector Week totally - I used the Schick E for a bit of touch up.
Injector week gave me the chance to blow the dust off my type-A, great shave I love the design truly stunning and compact.
