The danger of buying used razors in the wild mostly comes from used blades left in them. About half of mine were in this condition, set aside by the previous user. So when Grandpa, or Uncle passes away the kids sell off his cigar box of nasty old junk. That's where my $5 Fatboy came from. Very rare for me to spend much more than that for vintage DE's. Now as to straights, I'll go up to $20 but I'm picky. Hot water, Dawn & an old toothbrush sure does it for me vs. the Retail price on a new razor. I'd make an exception in the case of a Bunny.
I think the nostalgia that comes with a vintage razor far outweighs any dangers that would be associated with them.
I was PIFed a vintage razor. I loved it so much that I bought another one. Now I'm circling ebay for another and another and another. Yeah. It is a bad idea to use a vintage razor.
As the owner of about 20 vintage razors, absolutely not. As long as they are in good working condition, once cleaned they are good to go. Think of it this way, have you ever eaten in a restaurant? The silverware, plates and glasses have all been used before too..............
I don't know -- all these stories in the news about used razor related medical problems! Almost makes me want to get rid of my 1950 Aristocrat (haha)
Here's #20... The D2 TV Special turned out to be a plain ol' G2 Super Speed, but the seller is sending it right one. I'm keeping the G2 because turns out, it has the narrow band above the TTO knob; my B1 has the wide band. So, #22 is on the way and I'm saving about 7 bucks in the process. Why buy used? 'cuz they're cool.
My wife thinks the duplicate razors are all the same razor, because there is only a couple out at any one time that she can see. I've been leaving my dad's old aristocrat laying around, and when I get it replated, I can buy a couple others and she will just think it's the same. I hate myself, I need a RAD A meeting right now.
