I just tried to reply to this thread using IE6. Wouldn't work. If I was on page one of this thread, I couldn't move to page 2.

I had to open Firefox in order to post this reply.

What ever the issues are with the site, I'm looking forward to the fixes. I tend to use IE more often that FF simply because I'm more familiar with it and one of the web apps that I use at work doesn't run in FF which keeps me in IE.

Guys, I promise, I really am working on this (and making progress). :ashamed001

I can now duplicate the problem at will, which makes it much easier to troubleshoot. I know what the problem is, but I have to track down it's location. I'm working through the possibilities one at a time until I nail it.

    Hi Sparky-

    Thanks for all your efforts.

I'm NOT complaining, just relating my experience so that it may help you locate the issues.

AND you must be getting closer, because I was able to make this reply using IE.

    Keep up the great work.

OK here was my experiences last week accessing this site.

At home and with Firefox no problems at all. At work and on a laptop and another computer, both using IE, I can get on and perhaps get to read a post or two before things freeze up and I have to close the window and open a new one to read another post or two then I have to close the window and open a new one, repeat.

I'd be interested in knowing what the problem was when you find it.

Ok, that was last week. What about now?

Anyway, sparky knows IE7 is where the problem lies.

Actually it was happening yesterday too. I'm not going into work just to check! Oh hell no, I've got three days off. :D

Okay, the beta test is up and running. I'm not sure if this will fix it (been up way too long). If not, i'll jump back on it in a few hours.

---Nerdy unneeded details for those interested
Basically, the problem appears to be our shoutbox. Explorer likes to completely load everything before it displays. Occasionally, the shoutbox would try and retrieve information at the same time the page was loading. The shoutbox never got all the information it needed to properly load, and explorer failed to display anything else because it couldn't "pre-load" the shoutbox. I've changed the method the shoutbox loads it's data, and I think it will solve this.

Same here. It's never been quite right since then. The biggest problem I have is that every page loads very slooooooowwwwwlllyyyy.

Since you mentioned the shoutbox ... there's a question I've been wondering about ever since I joined ... What's the point of having the shoutbox at the top of every page that loads instead of being on one specific page, like the home page, where you can go to it when you want it? If I'm interested in reading the posts, I have to scroll past the shoutbox every time. For me, it's just an annoyance. Rather than worry about how the shoutbox loads, why don't you just remove it?

You can hide the shoutbox by clicking the little icon in the top right corner of it. It doesn't appear until you click the icon again, no matter if you log in/out or go from tread to tread...

Just FYI, at my work computer using IE 6.0.2900.5512... I'm now getting a "Done But With Errors On Page" message.

Line: 457(in thread - 463 on main page, 460 in main forum page)
    Char: 1
Error: 'document.body' is null or not an object
    Code: 0
    URL: http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?p=XXXXXX#postXXXXXX

However, nothing seems to be affected, and so far I haven't had any of the trouble I had last week.

Thanks for the hard work you're putting into this :happy088
