It might just be that investing in good quality vintage razors may be a better financial strategy this year than putting the money into the stock market
Vintage razors are not the only thing that has been collectable. You could not touch a Fire King Jadeite plate for less than for $40.00 five years ago and now they are going unsold on Ebay for $10.00. Everyone knows what happened to Beany Babies and Hummel figurines. When buyers are starting to buy vintage razors not to collect, but to re-sell. That is the time that prices will climb exponentially and I think we may be close, IMO. Dave
I think that one aspect of a razor that is a strong benefit over things like Beanie Babies is that they perform a non-decorative function - shaving. This may keep their prices up more than figurines, dolls, stamps, etc that are purely 'for show'.
But even me, the cheapest man on earth (still use a flip phone and my 2012 truck does not even have electric windows, as an example) will buy a razor because it is a thing of beauty. Something that I can display. If the prices is right. Dave
What about property? theres a use for that. Just like the housing bubble I think its only a matter of time before the razor bubble bursts.
True. Guess there is no such thing as a 'guaranteed thing' - if there was...everyone would get THAT It's also why I said it "MAY keep prices up".
The razor bubble started to burst awhile ago. About a year back, some forum goers were posting that they could not sell some of their uber expensive vintage razors at the purchase price. Anybody stating that razors are being acquired for "investment purposes" is either trying to rationalize indulgent purchases or seriously needs to rethink their investment strategies. Does anybody really have vintage razor investments as part of their 401K?
I agree I think this Slim is overpriced and if you hunt ebay regularly you'll get a better deal...I just did a quick scan on ebay and saw 18 Slims and Super Adjustables with bids of less than $20 and one 40's SuperSpeed than the seller obviously doesn't know what he has and is trying to sell as a Slim for $35 or best offer with free shipping, I may go back before bed and email him, tell him his mistake and then offer him $6 for it since the shipping is free...All he can do is thank me for educating him and say no, but he might say yes.....There are sellers "who really don't know anything about razors trying to get much more for these razors than whats fair", but it's up to you the buyer to not over pay...You must "KNOW MORE then the SELLERS", "BE PATIENT" and look and bid on "MANY" razors to get one for a fair price....It's not easy, it takes time and effort, but it can be done!! I've got several Slims and have never paid over 20 dollars for any of them and most I bought in the teens..If I were you I'd also consider getting a Gillette Fat Handle tech 3 piece...I.M.O. one of the best razors Gillette ever made mild, efficient and generally priced much better... With the use of shims they can even be somewhat adjustable to be more aggressive..Just my thoughts.... One more thing I wanted to say as far as the looks of the razor, remember the razor is brass and/or copper and won't rust, although the plating can wear..Any rust you see on the razor is generally from a blade being left in the razor for a long time depending on if its stainless or carbon steel....Slims mostly clean up real nice.. If your thinking about SE,,The EveryReady 1924 shovelhead is a "VERY" nice razor I.M.O.
If you simply tell him he doesn't have a Slim, he'll probably reply unpleasantly. If you tell him he doesn't have a Slim AND offer him $6, I can't even post here what he is most likely going to say to you. Most likely there will be no "thanks", no education, and a lot more than "no" being said. Ebay sellers get really offended when you try to help.
Prices have certainly escalated on ebay over the last 12 months. I purchased a Slim there last May (?)—and at that time, a Slim in the condition of the OP's initial post would sell in the $20 range. I paid about $33 (no case) for a near flawless 1962 model around that same time. Makes me wish now I didn't sell it so soon!
Sometimes that is sooooo correct......I've actually found though that most sellers I've corrected have responded positively and were grateful that it was brought to their attention..This seller just said thanks, but didn't comment on my offer(which I took as a no)... The very few who responded in the manner that you "showcased" in your post, I think were sorry they didn't just thanks and leave it at that...I've never corrected any seller out of animosity, but rather just to educate them and I follow the 10x rule....If someone unjustly attacks me I try to pay them back 10x over....
Ive seen better slims than that for similar prices with cases in the last 2months, granted prices have rose since just before christmas , as mentioned waiting should be a good option, good luck
