I've heard great things about this soap. How is it for the face? Edit: Traditional Spanish Castile olive oil soaps have animal fat - either tallow or lard. Does this soap have one of the two?
The soap is very gentle, and should be kind to any skin....however, I would imagine that some may not find it to be "enough" for facial cleansing (those with oily skin perhaps might need the 80% OO bar) No tallow or lard here......pure Olive Oil (100%!!!)
Thanks Joe! I'm making a list of grooming items I want for Christmas and my birthday. I have to figure out how much I need to save. With my growing desire to try more bath soaps, it's getting to be quite a lot of money. I know no one who would buy THAT much stuff for me.. I'm going to have to treat myself!
Hi everyone, I am brand new to the Shave Den and I have some questions about Issy's soaps. A little background. I have tried Nancy Boy, Santa Maria Novella, and Mitchell's WF soap (which I would rank in that order). I found the Nancy Boy to be very moisturizing and last a very long time. The Santa Maria is also very moisturizing but the bar doesn't last as long and is more than twice as expensive. I am not a fan of the Woolfat soap, it dried me up. So: 1) How would you compare the moisturizing qualities of Issy's soap compared to either Nancy Boy or Santa Maria? 2) How does Issy's soap compare in terms of long it lasts compared to Nancy or Santa Maria. 3) What is the most moisturizing of the Issy's soaps? 4) Are all the soaps listed on his site the only ones available? I want to try the peppermint and coconut but the former is all sold out and the latter is not listed. Thanks for your help everyone and I look forward to contributing to the board. Chris edit: I also read a post by Mama Bear awhile back that mentioned soap made with real butter. Does Issy make a soap like this? Alright I am done with questions for now, I swear.
Welcome to The Shave Den, Chris. Sorry, but I can't answer a single one of your questions. :ashamed001 I just received three bars of Issy's soaps last week, but I've only tried one so far (Sandalwood Rose...very nice!) and I've never used the other brands you mentioned. And anyway, I know nothing of this "moisturizing" thing. I just like 'em if they smell nice. Lots of folks around here to help with your questions though and they'll be along shortly. In the mean time... Welcome!!::
Welcome to The Shave Den, Chris! Issy's soap is so much better than MWF is all I can say, as I haven't tried the others you mentioned. As for the soap made with real butter, that might be Muller Lane soaps, but not sure. Sorry. Issy or TraderJoe will have more info for you I'm sure.
Welcome Chris. As a frequent user of Issy's soaps I whole heartedly recommend them not only for performance but also for the guy behind the moulds.
1) A vet that lives behind me did some free work for my Fathers dog so I gave her a bar of 100% OO soap, she rolled her eyes and said she uses Nancy Boy...2-3 days later she ordered 3 lbs of mine and ordered 6 lbs more a few weeks ago. 2) I cant tell you how long it lasts compared to others..I use mine..lol. But with any soap I would recomend using a soap dish and your soap will last longer. 3) I superfat at 6% and only use foodgrade oils so it's all guite moisturizing (to me anyhow). But the 100% OO would rank the highest. 4) I will be adding 4 more soaps this coming weekend and peppermint is one of them (taking a break to cook food...lol). I will be pouring more toasted coconut in a few weeks (was running low on oils so had to order a few hundred more Lbs) I have made soap with as much as 25% real butter (bovine) and will be again for sure...it makes a wonderful soap. The next one will probably be a cranberry orange marmalade..kinda goes good with butter eh PS I made more molds so I can keep more in stock as it takes 4 weeks to cure Feel free to ask any questions. Issy
Sadly, with the drier air my skin is starting to really dry up. It's time to move on and stick to just the MWF shaving soap. I wanted to place my first order a while back but I'm waiting for my two favorite scents to be back in stock: Peppermint and Spellbound Woods. Hopefully, the 80% Olive Oil soap doesn't run out by then. Me? Excited for bath soaps? It never ends.. :ashamed001
Sorry I can't answer all your questions, but I can tell you that my 100% OO soaps last me around 3 months. I use it to wash my face and it is incredibly moisturizing. If moisturizing properties is what you're looking for, look no further!
Thanks for your help everyone. I will be placing an order this weekend when Issy adds the peppermint and others. Right now I am leaning towards 3 100% OO, 1 Spellbound Woods (assuming it is added), and 1 Peppermint. Chris
I pulled the trigger on a few soaps: 100% OO, 80% OO, Brown Sugar & Spice, Peppermint, and Spellbound Woods. I can't wait to try them!
Placed an order for 3 100% OO, 1 Peppermint, and 1 spellbound. Look forward to trying these all out. I plan to use the OO soaps as a facewash, hopefully they are gentle enough as my skin has been pretty dry lately. Thanks for the advice guys. Chris
