Thanks Jared, It was an amazingly generous PIF offering from Roger @Hodge . I am still blown away by his generosity.
Route 66 Twisted Tweed B-400 Brush by Tom Otto Deutsch Hans Thayers WH Pinaud Clubman AS Happy Friday!
Focus Shave 30 Irving the Razor ~ Stirling 26mm Finest ~ B&M Lavanille ~ Stirling Curveball A thoroughly enjoyable shave today. Irving gets more comfortable with every use, and B&M lather never disappoints, especially when you load up enough of it to shave an ox.
January 20, 2017 Razor: Gillette New LC Blade: Astra SP (1) Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22 Cream: KMF fragrance-free For this morning's shave, I put aside the Fatboy and picked up a newly-acquired New LC. This is one of several razors I received as part of @Morman Bridge's incredibly generours PIF. This particular razor is a bit of a Frankenrazor; it appears to be an early New LC (no Pat. No.) but the center has been milled out to accommodate the wider collet of a Common Bar Handle. Except for a small spot on the handle, the plating on this razor is excellent. This is my first time using a "real" New LC as my previous experience has been with a New LC-based Goodwill 160. The last time I used that one was back in OCtober and I was having some technique issues at the time. Today's shave went well, though, and I ended up with a BBS but with some burn from the Alum. I need to make some time in the future to get reacquainted with this razor.
I have, and they are pretty good, though it's been 5-6 years. This is where my place is: Big Cove BBQ
I have tried La Toja, and like Arko or Palmolive it is a great soap, and not as drying as these. I only find it drying when compared to what I consider the best soaps in this particular area: Stirling, Route 66, and Stubble Trubble (in no particular order). These soaps set the bar high for leaving my skin soft and supple.
I almost forgot... I had a bit of a "You Know You've Seen Too Much Shenanigans When..." moment, this morning, while looking at a can of Icy Hot Spray and realizing it was 18% Menthol.
Thanks. I think even if I didn't shave, I would still play with soap and brushes. It is my favorite part.
January Shavette Focus Arko & Omega Pro #20248 Weck Shavette, Personna Stahly Live Blade, Rapira Alum block, Lilac Vegetal Good old Arko and a fat boar brush in the suribachi bowl didn't whip up the lather I was expecting. Brush maintenance instruction have been absorbed and will happen. Face lathering conquered the issue for now. Confidant with the open blade my two passes were efficient. Grabbed the Stahly for clean up, but didn't wind it up. It left me with a SAS, a bit of neck stubble. No point in risking irritation with a little used DE. Alum was smooth enough. The Veg topped of an pleasant shave that caused me to miss the Inauguration. I'm sure I'll catch the reruns and commentary later. Good Shaves Y'all!
Razor: Gillette Black Beauty R-2 1971 Blade: Personna 74* Tungsten Plus (6) Brush: Vie Long Cachurro Horse Hair Soap: Route 66 Barbershop Hop Aftershave: Old Spice Fresh Lime Very good 3 pass shave tonight. I don't use a horse brush much. It was a gift from my wife a few years ago so it is always a good move to pull it out and use it. Have a good evening and a great weekend. The new Fendrihan towel is outstanding.
