I'm not sure why, but I kinda didn't even want to say, but here goes... I selected to use a Parker Variant on 2, Feather Blades (3 days max, for now), a dab of Noxzema rubbed in as a pre-shave, Cold Water (thanks to the advocates here), TOOBS (cause its easy, and I like the smell), a' sissy light' touch 3x mostly WTG, alum (low feedback), cold water again after 30-60 secs, a splash of witch hazel toner (wait), a little Proraso crème, a little splash of Brut Splash-On (cause I like the stink), dab a couple drops of Trumpers Skin Food in the sensitive part of my neck.

Yeah, I know that is a lot of after shave stuff, but I have not shaved this many days in a row with a non electric in my life. And my lower neck is improved from what it looked like with the Braun Hummer. My shaves just keep getting cleaner/closer/more comfortable. Wish I found this 40 years ago.

Sounds like you're getting things lined up very nicely. Yes, ignore the BBS result and focus on technique. The results come with technique as it develops. My shave tonight is a perfect example of how important technique is and what happens when it isn't where it should be. I'll be posting that shortly. Great to have you along and within a much shorter time than you know you'll be the one helping out the newbies!

 

I must agree, shaving never felt so good before. Like they say, use what works for you . It's your face. Happy shaves.

 

Thanks very much. The gaining technique is really coming along good for me . Someday I hope to pass along the help to other newbies as people have greatly improved my shaves since joining here.

How important is technique? Pretty important from how we talk about it around here. I decided to stick with the Jeeves and switch off to an SE razor tonight. I have a really nice MMOC and thought I'd give it a try. SE razors are cool, I rarely use them but like them, and surely I know what I'm doing, right? I mean, I've used this particular one a few times and only had minor issues. I have a PTFE blade for it, so what's the worst that could happen?

I'm happy to report that the blood was much less that it has been on a couple of other shaves this week, but I'm not happy to report that, for about the third time using this razor, I got a couple of nicks on my right jawline. Clearly something is off in my handling of this razor. The two pass shave did produce a nice DFS but it could be better there as well. I guess this razor just isn't a quality piece of shaving equipment that you can't trust.

You aren't buying that, are you? The truth is the razor is fine. The blade is fine. It's my technique with the SE type razor, and this one in particular, that is the problem. Only one way to fix that and I have an idea brewing in my head.

Technique Trumps Tools!!! But technique requires practice. It doesn't happen just because you can wield a pain stick like a butter knife and shout Russian slogans.

Good report! Just perfect the angles and pressure. Never chase the baby. Results follow technique, always. Remember, if you look clean shaven, you are clean shaven. No need to push your skin trying to be ultra smooth.

Getting used to letting the razor do the work. Feels so good today without the usual burn on my neck. And yes it looked clean so I was happy with only 2 passes today.

 

I love it when the penny crowd decides to gang up.
