January 2019 30 Day Rule/Focus Pix & Discussion

Thanks Charlie. I switched careers late in life. I went back to get a Masters degree in my late 40's. I had a terrible cooperating teacher and it was tough. I remember I was doing a leave replacement and I was teaching Honors and Regents Chemistry. I was replacing a well respected teacher and the Honors kids were not respecting my style, etc. I was let go because I was teaching a subject out of my area of expertise and politics. I felt like a failure and started to accept the fact that maybe I wasn't cut out for it. One year later, one of the Honors kids looked me up and called me to invite me to their Science induction ceremony. Needless to say I was flabbergasted. I arrived on the day of the ceremony and the parents and the Honors kids welcomed me by shaking my hand and thanking me. The parents said that I was mistreated and that the district gave me a raw deal. The kids had me pose with them in a group picture. Driving home, I cried because I was deeply touched. At that point, I knew I was a teacher.

I also had two amazing HS teachers, one in Math/Physics and one in Chemistry. They made me hunger for more knowledge, and really made it fun and relatable to real life.

Bay rum makes everything better!
Normally my three pass shave catches the little rascal but not today. I'm still amazed how much less sensitive my skin is since I learned to shave properly.

So long to January shave
So we've come to the end. Been a great month with the Luxor Pro. Used the Rapira blade exclusively with wonderful results. Thought I'd go out in style with the Clubman tonight. This last bit of TOBS Eton College will meet its demise in February I guess. Happy shaves gentleman. See you in February.

Damn, I’m off the reservation now. I’ve been experimenting with my CF sample sets (soaps and AS) as well as different blades. I was getting relatively consistent performance with my Merkur and Big Ben blades (in my my Merkur 34c), but for my last 5 shaves I’ve used a Treet Platinum and Gillette 7 o clock (yellow) and have really had some trying shaves,

I’m trying to ride the cap, but I find I’m often leaving a residue of lather on my face. That is, not taking it all off in a shave stroke.

What does this mean? Is my lather too dry, or maybe too slick? Am I simply missing the angle, and hitting my face more with the safety bar than the blade? Does the blade just suck? The Treets and Gillette’s seem to tug more, for what it’s worth. Not a smooth glide over the whiskers. Even brand new blades.

Gentlemen, I’m flummoxed!

 

Kinda frustrated with my EJ super badger brush too. It just seems so mushy, with little backbone. Fairly comfortable on the face, but becoming more of a chore to lather.
