Six years ago, this thread was born out of an idea. An idea, that through group communication and feedback, the collective shaving group could achieve better and more satisfying shaves. In other words, learning from others. Shaving isn’t learned from a book; it’s learned by trial and error. Through the years, members have come and gone, but this goal has remained the same. As we begin our 7th year, one of my goals is to encourage the direction of this thread back to our “roots”, by increasing the participation in 30 Day Rules and 30 Day Focuses. What is the 30 Day Rule? Take ONE razor, ONE blade, ONE brush, ONE soap/cream and use them EVERYDAY of the month. EVERYDAY. Then, after the shave, post the results---in detail---pictures are better, and we have a real cache of talented photographers on TSD. Now, tell us what was good. What needed improvement. What needed a lot more attention. Put it out there for the other members to critique and/or make suggestions for improvement. And I also encourage us all to do just that. We all have something to offer and something to learn. I have learned, for instance, so much about straight razor shaving from the experts on this thread. Indeed, I would have never even attempted it without the invaluable tutelage of the denizens here. Admittedly, this is not only a serious and challenging commitment, but one, that most wet-shavers will choose not to undertake. For them… May I suggest the 30 Day Focus. Vary the gear for each shave, save, for perhaps, one or two elements. This is a GREAT way to work through some of those shave soaps you have accumulated over the years. Personally, finishing a tub of shave soap is a VERY rewarding feeling. These, of course, are just suggestions, but they do represent the heart and soul of this thread. Naturally, there are some rules that we all must follow, and they are: 1. New Members always welcome. Start anytime. 2. Old Members always welcome. 3. Respect everyone. 4. Refrain from political conversation. In conclusion, let's work together, to make this thread a vast wealth of knowledge and helpful information for anyone that might stumble upon us. And lastly, from Primo---to you and yours: Happy New Year!
