Had a wonderful noon shave today. The original Gillettes a very efficient. I'm sure glad I went gentle. Ended up with a great DFS 2 pass shave. I'm trying to finish off this tub of executive man. I have already purchased a refill puck but I want to clean the jar of all the old soap.

I was out in the shop at 7 AM making handles this morning. Looks like an insert will make about 10 handles before it needs replacing. I actually had the machine stale the insert was so dull. Thankfully the spindle feedback just stopped the machine, so the only down time was changing the insert.

Total machine time is about 20 min, but the video is at 4x. Trust me this makes it much more entertaining. The mister and vacuum are held in place with a twist tie and duct tape.

Sorry for the chatter in the video. Those lathe inserts are $3.75 each so I'm pushing them as far as I can.

Got an amazing lather for the New Lupo Dual Comb to ride thru. The Lupo is going to be a welcome addition to the den I can tell already. I like it better than the DLC Lupo I sold. The SB .95 side seemed much more forgiving and smooth than the .72 OC side. The razor does seem to drag a bit. thought the DLC coating is what caused that feel but it may be in the design and the angle that it requires to shave with that gives the drag effect and no doubt the reason the SB feels better even at a higher gap. Comparing it to the Yates razor with the H plate there is much less gap than the Yates. The Yates has the clamp point of the razor more away from the blades edge but also has more of a bend on the razor blade giving it the rigidity I prefer even at a further back clamp point. The Lupo is a narrower head design. The photo shows the comparison.

So I got a nice comfortable shave and am glad to have the Lupo in the den. After 1 shave I think the SB .95 will be my preference and may trade the .72 SB for a .95 SB but more shaves and experimentation is needed before deciding. All that said I like it but the Yates with the H and possibly the Hybrid are still my preferences. Topped with the Humphrey's and Auqa Velva which is more a Fresh Green Vetiver to my nose while the more current Vintage (Blue) and Modern are more a Fresh Aquatic to me. I enjoy them all ! Azzaro Visit is a great scent and cheap so you can use more which you need to if you wanna be "That Guy" Take care and have a great day everyone !!

This morning’s shave featured my only modern straight razor, a Riga Razor 7/8 for the mug, and one of my most efficient safety razors, the Eclipse Red Ring for the noggin. This safety razor was manufactured when the British Empire was the world’s superpower back in the thirties by James Neill & Co. of Sheffield England, and represents three different British patents. One for the razor head design, the second for the adjustment mechanism at the base of the handle, and the third for the magnet at the very bottom of the handle. The head design features “teeth with a solid bar above and below them that...creates a scything action ...similar to a slant...” (cf. Bruceonshaving) allowing the razor to be used very efficiently at a variety of shave angles. Its aggressiveness is adjustable via a knob at the base of the handle (left for more aggressive, right for less), while the magnet allows one to pick up a dropped DE blade from a flat surface safely.

This morning’s dome shave with the Red Ring was incredibly close, but did present a bit more blade feel than usual thanks to the fresh Kai blade I loaded. I usually like Feather blades in this razor, but found that the shave with a Kai may have been just a bit more efficient. The beauty of the shave with this razor is the loudness of the buttering toast refrain it sings out during the stubble reduction process. My mug shave with the Riga Razor was quite good as well, but I confess, I do find it to be a bulky, awkward razor to use. It definitely represents the trend towards shave hatchets in modern straight razor design. I’m probably just being a bit of a grump and curmudgeon, reflecting my seven plus decades walking the planet, but I really like a small efficient, light vintage straight. The Riga Razor blade steel is great and holds a beautiful Naniwa/jasper stone edge. It’s just too dang bulky! In any case, the result is what counts and I definitely feel refreshed, clean and velveteen smooth.

PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Alpha Shaving T-400 Tribute with 24mm Hybrid Knot Ferrule

POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with Glyce Glycerin soap followed by Humphreys Lilac Wh. Finished with Nancy Boy Signature After-Shave Balm.

Great way to start the week!

The Dscosmetics Queen handle with the Shave Forge horse hair knot whipped the Cella up in no time. The Razorock Hawk V3 SB on the Weber Bulldog completed a wonderful three pass shave. Alum was quiet. I believe this was the best Hawk shave so far and the more I use the Hawks the more I like them. A good splash of the matching aftershave and I am ready for Monday.

Great report Evan! I bought my wood turning inserts in "China" for $1.70 each. Now they are 3x the price of metal inserts.

I am up and moving early to start the new week. Don't ask me what I think about Mondays. I wend with the WSP Cedar Citron this morning. This soap was a Christmas gift from Asha and is my only non tallow WSP soap. I found the soap easy to load and lather. Overall the performance of the soap was excellent. I do like the tallow version better but they are very close. However, the scent is simply fantastic. Three passes and touch ups caught the baby with ease. A splash of Agua de Limon followed by the Oud Citron solid cologne has me smelling good for the day. I hope everyone has a great Monday.

That's a fair question, Andrew. I'm running a clean NB. By the rules, plain and simple. I share the same appreciation for rules as Deputy Barney Fife. If you know anything about how smoothly the Mayberry Jail operates, that should provide some indication of how my NB will work. Click on the link in my signature, and it will take you to the agreement I have with @jtspartan. Yep, I like to keep the agreement front and center. Cards remain on the table at all times in my hillbilly NB world.

As for those two other sod busters, whom I won't name because I try to stay above the fray...it's already starting to get ugly. There's been talk of Mulligans. I have no idea who the Mulligans are. I'm guessing it's a family of attorneys they have retained for NB contract renegotiations.

With my Electric Sheep single soap focus now complete, I quickly knew what I would reach for - LEA Classic.
Today, I also got to use my new brush for the first time. After it arrived on Saturday, I gave it a Dial anti-bacterial hand soap wash and then 2 test palm lathers later. During the those lathers, it did lose about 10 hairs. I hope that does not continue.

2+ passes today with the Super Speed provided a comfortable and efficient result with no irritation or mishaps. The lower neck irritation from yesterday still lingered slightly, so I used only WTG passes there. I returned to face lathering today, as that is what I know best and would give me a better idea of the brush's performance. After reading the instructions included with the brush, one may be lead to believe that Simpson brushes are very delicate. I did adhere to their recommendations of using only "light to-and-fro strokes" like a paint brush, although I do not think using circular motions would damage the hairs, as long as the brush is not swirled while completely splayed. No hairs left the knot today and it performed well overall. I am glad I finally have a Simpson in the collection.

All kidding aside, the soap is ok. You can, and I have done MUCH worse.
But now it's time to move on.
I need the 30DC crew judges to weigh in on this:
Do I just pick another soap and forge ahead with the "Rule"?
Do I keep the R41 and compliment it with different gear, thus changing the "Rule" to a "Focus"?
Do I abandon the "Rule" entirely and suffer the ignominy and snarky comments from...
Excellent final shave, albeit with two miniscule red marks.
Wiped them away with the Dickinson's. (There is another product I won't lament losing)
Proraso after shave balm. (This'll need replenishing, since I am not on a NB 2021)
Completed the shave with one of my favorites from the house of Nasomatto: Black Afgano
