    January "Rule"

    3P Almond Shaving Soap~~dubl duck #4~~2011 Mühle R41/Gillette Platinum
Day one of my January rule and I thought long and hard about which products to use.

I chose the 3P soap, because, frankly, I want to use it up. It's an "ok" soap,
but the almond/cherry scent isn't my favorite, so not only is this soap part of my "rule",
    but it's destined for 3017.
The dd #4 is the brush of choice when you really want to use a soap up. ;)
If you look closely, you can see that the Omega boar bristles are beginning to split nicely.
    IMG_7006.jpeg
A while back, I did a Russian blade focus and the Gillette Platinum was at the bottom of my rankings.
So, I decided to give the blade another go and see if what I thought back then still holds true.
I will, however, never like the fact that they have some serious glue dots. :angry019:
    IMG_7001.jpeg

While I didn't "bloom" the soap, per se, I did sprinkle some water on the surface and then immediately pour it off.
Going to work with the dd, I loaded for bear and then worked the lather in my Aesop SS bowl.
Last time I used this soap, I over-hydrated it, in an attempt to get that shine we all love.
I have come to grips that because this soap is NOT tallow-based, that shine might be elusive.
Therefore, I was stingier with the H2O and ended up with what our friend Fuzzy @wchnu would label: buttercream.

Well, maybe not quite buttercream, but denser than I am accustomed to.
    Now to the shave, itself.

My throng of followers should have noticed, that it has been 5 days since I shaved.
I had some serious lawn to mow and nothing cuts the grass like the R41.
First pass was smooth and uneventful, and I could have called it a day having already achieved
    a solid DFS shave.
    But...no...
Pass number two was a chin to ear direction, still quasi WTG. Nice.
The lather was protective and quite slick.
Pass number three and I made a rookie move.
ATG ear to chin neck pass and it was going swimmingly, until I decided to shave on
    UNPROTECTED skin.
    :angry032::angry032::angry032::angry032::angry032::angry032::angry032:
Nothing major, but the R41 will NOT let you get away with stupidity.
Finished the shave with some clean up and except for a small amount of blood on the lower-left neck,
    I was BBS smooth.
Witch Hazel removed any soap residue and my FOTD© (Frag o' the Day) was:
Vintage Christian Dior Eau Sauvage EdT. Which, BTW, got an immediate SWMBOSOA©

Ok here's the first shave of 2021!

    As promised:

Razor: 1955 Gillette super speed flare tip.
    Blade: Shaverboy Stainless
    Soap: Wilkinson Shaving Soap
    Brush: Wilkinson
Aftershave: Mennen Skin Bracer for that classic after shave feel.

This setup gave me the best shave I've had so far! I am getting better at lathering the brush (and my face) and these Shaverboy blades are really nice! It gave me a nice mild, no irritation, comfortable shave without any nicks or cuts! Learning to "map the grain" of my facial hair has also contributed greatly to another successful shave! This is my kit for the rest of the month!

Happy New Year good friends from TSD! For the opening survey I was going to do a vote in 2 categories. Ahhhh, decided to stick with the one, NB'21. Looks like I am one of many. Join in the challenge!! My January focus will be to settle into my year focus of NB. Shave-wise, I have to develop a plan to lose the "clump"(it may as well be that!)of astroturf stretching from the jawline into Cactus Nation, on the right side. Also to cut down on cuts and Knicks. But especially to see how many soap jars I can complete. Granted, there are some that I probably will have on the last day I shave in my life. Anyway.........here's to a fresh New Year, and one that will include great shaves from us all!

Were it not for that year, I wouldn't be sitting here now, saying what I just said. Why. My "eventual parents" tied the knot in December.

    January 1st
    Razor: Yates 921-M
    Blade: Feather NHS (2)
    Brush: Simpson CH2 synthetic
    Pre-shave: PAA Cube
    Soap: B&M Fougére Gothique
    PAA Galactic Witch Hazel
    B&M Unscented Balm
    AS: B&M Fougére Gothique

    Good Morning!

Fabulous Fougére Friday shave! Three passes for near BBS. Nearly silent alum. Still battling muscle memory but better today. I don't know that I will but I should take the Dart for a run after my run with the Yates. The Dart is another razor that likes a steep angle and I struggle with it because of that. If I concentrate on maintaining the steep angle it's as smooth as any razor in my collection.

    Happy New Year my friends!

I don't count fragrances as part of my shave either, despite AS going on at the end. Looks like a nice plan for the month.

Aaand...a very nice beginning to 2021 for me, shave-wise. I began the year just as I ended the last, as I was back with the Jeeves Bay Rum Soap and Stephan Bay Rum aftershave. The major improvement from yesterday? Zero cuts/Knicks. Slow and steady, in that tender area(left edge of N.Porcupine Alley, just under the nose). ASs I indicated in my January intro post, I still have yet to solve that area where hairs just keep hanging around(from jawline south into Cactus Nation). Hopefully some of my latest purchases(made before midnight last night, so I'm still good for NB 21)can attack those hairs. I would include the Mitchell Wool Fat in that category, although that was PIFed to me a little over a month ago. Anyway, solid work all around....had the presence of mind to keep "jabbing" at mid-cheek area(right side), as I couldn't shave all whiskers in that area at first couple tries. Nice shave to open a New Year...Outta This World Excellent.
