Thanks everyone, I can't actually believe I won this thing, it must be the first thing I won in all my life! Thanks again everyone that helped making this happen!
Well, today BurningDarkness' and Poulin's prizes arrived, and both where even grander than expected, BD's creams were stuff that I don't even know where to buy and that I never even though about trying and were very diverse, ranging from banana scented to rose! I did already know what to expect from Poulin, but I do have to tell you that he still managed to surprise me, that soap is BIG, pictures doesn't do it justice. I'm never gonna be able to finish that big boy. I also test-shaved the soap (saving the cream samples for my morning shaves), and man this is good stuff. It's quite pleasantly soap scented, and the added alum makes after-shave routines unnecessary, just lather up and shave! It didn't sting either, which is a big plus. The stainless jar was also nice, only (and it is truly the only) downside with this soap is that the edge of the jar is really sharp, so I might transfer it to a mug of some kind. If anyone is thinking about trying this soap, do so, it's quite interesting in it's own special way. I'll post an update to this thread as I try my way through BD's samples, and as more goodies arrive! Thanks everyone!
I'm happy to read that you liked the Laboratoires OSMA shaving soap with alum. It is a big puck of soap! I'm happy that it got to you so quickly as well!
Yeah, my jaw nearly hit the floor when I unwrapped it, I was expecting a 3/4" thick puck of soap, and that one is about 2 inches thick. BTW, your calling card is really nice, very clean and professional!
Susie's Bubbles' & Ginger's Garden's soaps arrived today, Spearmint and Eucalyptus Lemon respectivly, and both are wonderful soaps with fresh smells, so fresh I had to try them both today after work. Both lathers really well, and smell great when applied to the skin (not too much though, just enough to be perfect). The only slight problem I had was the scent of the Eucalyptus Lemon when smelled up close, it reminds me of a sauna soap (Sunlight, old tallow soap) we have here in Finland that has a similar albeit more synthetic detergent smell, but luckily this sorted itself out as after lathering up the soap and putting it against the face the smell mellowed down a bit, seems that there was a bit excess EO's on the soap itself that got washed away with the first lather up. Anyhow, both soaps are excellent performers, and are warmly recommended to all shavers! Thanks soapbuddy and Susie! Oh, I tried one of the creams Burningdarkness sent me, the violet one (can't remember the name), and man that was some good stuff, the smell was excellent as well!
Glad the stuff got to you, Stuggi. That was Saint Charles Shave Parma Violet. I tried to include a bunch of different scents and brands of creams for you to get a good sampling of what's out there. Enjoy them in good health! Thanks for keeping us updated with what you've tried. I look forward to hearing more about your experiences.
Shaved with the Spearmint soap today, very good indeed! Lathers as well as Dr. Harris Arlington, and shaves just as well. Almost identical performer to soapbuddy's soap. Seems as if our resident soapmakers have got this soapmaking down to an artform!
