Mitch to be perfectly honest I'm not to sure, the only reason I can think of could be a quite simple it's just their prefered method of grinding and style, I must admit to being a fan of shoulderless razors they look so elegant Revisor make a few modern shoulderless models which are superb shavers.
One of my newest to my Japanese Straight collection. I really like the translucent silver sparkle scales. I took my time polishing it, and honing it today. It is easily popping hair, all the way down the blade. So, I will try a shave with it tonight. 谷藤 TF.HAIROP BARBARS 東京. If anyone reads Japanese characters, please help me translate.
Another couple of Japanese Razors. I just liked the looks of them, and the fact that one had JPN on the tang. JPN 1000 6/8 東京. It cost $8.50, and took a real nice edge. This one took a little more doing. It felt like Swedish steel, and the toe end was stubborn on the hone. 寒月 KANGETSU 東京. Cost $12.84
I have a hashimoto sculpture I naught off ebay. Swedish steel once honed gives me a longer lasting blade than my other blades.love it. I think Japanese blades are a good blade Sent from my SM-G550T using Tapatalk

I just joined the ranks with my one and only Japanese razor - this Suzumasa AA. I just had my first shave with it today and it hit the Wow! scale. @Billyfergie had warned me about how sharp these razors are and, sure enough, before I was halfway through the first pass I made a nice slice under my ear and behind my jaw. You know, somewhere near where the jugular is. I will be enjoying my "Suzy Q" for quite some time, I am sure. Happy shaving - Karl
That Swedish Steel sure can take a wicked edge. Sometimes I think too sharp. That's one nice looking razor. Congrats, and enjoy.
