I am defiantly not one of them, as I said I could have got a dud, but not willing to try again knowingly.
All for the sake of keeping others from having to experience it. Except, of course, the daredevils that hover around here.
Day 8 detox, day 1 Slim AI shavette This shavette is made in Italy and only takes 1/2 DE blades. It is heavier than the Dovo shavette so it was easier to shave with... wish it took longer blades. In deference to the cartel I loaded it with a Voshkod and paired that with Arko. 4 passes and BBS with just tiny bit of irritation. I brought 3 shavettes with me to see if any of the could qualify as a travel razor. The surprising winner is the Slim AI. The Dovo is too light making it hard to shave with even though I liked the Fromm blades. While I wish the Slim was heavier it is heavy enough to feel like I have some control. The Feather DX lost out because it is too blood thirsty and requires ideal conditions. I now have two travel razors, an Ikon SB and the Slim AI. I also confirmed I definitely prefer a 'true straight', the edges feel much better and with the weight I also have better control of the blade and the angle. With the true straight I can very the angle slightly to increase or decrease the aggressiveness but I can't do that with the shavettes. Irritation A- Closeness A Smoothness A- Sharpness A
July Blade Trials Lord Super Stainless Day 2 Day two went really well and I will declare Lord Super Stainless to be a success. It's a solid pass, and may get elevated to top tier status pending the rest of the month. Two passes and I was good. Light menthol in the Barbasol, followed by Osage, but I didn't get nuts with it. It was near 100f with full sun, so hot I saw two bushes fighting over a dog. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a great Sunday! ☺
Well let's see........his wife could remove certain things that would make it a moot point if he went low menthol.
Easy. Lock box to store the blades while he sleeps. Best of both worlds...angry wife and low menthol still in play. I bet he's a go-getter like that.
There's an old Irish folk song that goes: If I had a wife, the plague of me life, I'll tell you what I would do. I'd buy her a boat, and set her afloat, And paddle me own canoe. That being said. Do not cross an Irish woman. Ever.
My wife is half Japanese half Irish... And knows how to wield a katana Sent from my Galaxy S6 using Tapatalk
Agreed. I've never tried the Pellas (though I am curious enough to try one if you want to PIF them to me), *nothing* (except perhaps for the Chinese Tiger knock-offs) is as bad as a Tiger. I'm assuming that the Pella is a sharpened blade... not a piece of random blade-shaped metal better suited for scraping antelope hides in Nigeria. IIRC, the Pella blades are made by Personna. Having just spent a few days with the store-brand DE blades they make in Israel, I'm starting to wonder if Personna blades are just all somehow "different" than what we expect in a blade today. Not "bad", just "different". In the case of the DE blade, I also felt tugging, especially on the first shave, which seemed to improve with a different, slicker soap and, ultimately, a different razor. In my case, despite the tugging, I ended up with extremely close shave more comparable to one from an Injector. Truly, a YMMV situation.
9 July 2016 Razor: Gillette SS Flare Tip Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (3) Brush: Omega Barber Pole Handle w/Silvertip Soap: Jeeves of Hudson Private Study A/S: Myrsol F./Extra Another fine 3 pass shave with a slight cleanup with these tools. A very good shave soap and an excellent A/S. DFS.
I found that too tentative a grip caused me some problems. I had to have a firm grip, but light pressure. The trick was using light pressure, but still using confident, deliberate strokes. If I was too tentative, the blade skipped and led to more cuts with less reduction.
July Focus Day 10: Stirling Synthetic Brush TSD Lanolin Egyptian Spice Genco Easy Aces Stirling Unscented PSB Vintage Old Spice This was the second razor on loan to me from @Drygulch, and I found it to be a great shaver. It looks good, but shaves better. I went for a full two passes, and ended with an easy BBS. Several hours later, and I woud still rate this BBS, which is just great. I am looking forward to a second shave with this one. I hope everyone is having a great day!
Planned Shave Den Sunday! 10 July 2016 Schick Revere Handle Schick Injector Blades L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic Alum TSD ISZ Shave Stick TSD ISZ AS Splash Back to the blade trials tomorrow, but since it's about to be 100f on the prairie, today's choice for Shave Den Sunday is Iced Subzero. You don't wanna get nuts with this stuff either, it's every bit as cold as Osage. Out to enjoy some sun and a day off. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a great afternoon!
Having used both tiger blades and Pella injectors I have to say the Pellas are much better. I still hate them.
