I'm just impressed that a Chinese blade factory can make any blade that works, given my experiences with their DE offerings. Although, they do make a very good Gillette Super Thin there. Which leads me to believe that as long as they are manufacturing for an existing company like Gillette or Schick they actually follow their quality guidelines. If it's an internal product like MEM, Cloud or, heaven forbid, Flying Eagle, forget it. Just in case...if you ever see a Chinese injector blade NOT associated with Schick.....I'd recommend walking away quickly. Without turning to give it a parting glance.

I'll admit I'm very jealous. I'd squat in a bucket of Osage Rub for a Mastro Livi razor.

I'm curious if you've ever tried the Japanese Schick blades and, if so, how you rate them compared to the Chinese and NOS blades.

Ditto on the Chinese Gillette Super Blue Blade assuming you can find a genuine one and not a counterfeit.

I suspect that that is the other issue with Chinese blades- finding the genuine ones. Considering how prolific counterfeiting of razor blades is in China, I wouldn't be shocked to learn that something like Flying Eagle is actually a decent blade, provided you get one directly from some provincial grocery, and that what we get in the West are poorly executed fakes dumped on one or two major exporters.

    July Focus Day 15:

    Stirling Synthetic Brush
    Stirling Bay Rum SS
    Gillette Fatboy
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Stirling Bay Rum AS

A great two pass DFS this morning. It was comfortable, easy, and smooth. The Stirling soap was as great as ever, and this razor just takes care of my whiskers. A little Bay Rum AS to top it off, and I am headed to work to start this great Friday. I hope everyone has a great day!

Also, I don't know why I had Arko in the picture, I take them the night before and must have been tired last night.

Very interesting take on this subject. I have only used the Chinese Schick blades but now I'm curious about the older NOS blades. This rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper and deeper...

    July 2016 Blade Focus

    July 14

    Razor: Lord L6
    Blade: Feather
    Brush: VDH Boar
    Soap: Stirling MITA
Post: Cold water rinse, Alum block

Final shave with the feather blade for these blade trials. The blade held up and worked well even with some extra growth. It is not as smooth as some blades but it definitely has no problems slicing through even the coarsest areas of my beard.

I went full cold water shave last night. In the past I had used warm water for soaking my brush and for cleaning my razor while shaving. I thoroughly enjoyed the cold water for everything but cleaning the razor. Just does not seem to remove the soap that builds up as well, or I guess I should say I have to work a little harder to get the razor clean. I plan to keep going with the cold water at least for the summer. The cold water plus the Stirling MITA does an excellent job of keeping me feeling cool . . . Not @Bama Samurai cool of course.

    And wait, there's more!

    Nice catch John! :happy096:

I completely forgot about the Japanese Schicks - another present day injector blade. I actually picked up a pack about a month ago and forgot all about them. Haven't tried them yet.

Perhaps I'll take one for a Sunday drive this weekend and post about them.

They are a bit pricier than the Chinese and as I recall, somewhat similar to some NOS blades.

    Thanks for the reminder. :happy088:

(i can't believe I keep forgetting stuff like this....hmmm, now what was it that I came into the kitchen for? :think002: )

I'll chip in towards the razor, but he has to buy his own Osage Rub.

And a videographer with very good editing skills...
