A general rule of thumb is is that chemical reaction rates double for every 10 degree C temperature increase. This wouldn't apply to the absorption of water in a natural hair brush, though. That's a physical, not a chemical, phenomenon.

Here's my theory. Warm water would be more effective in dissolving any built up residue on the surface of the brush hair shafts. In doing so, it would allow the water to penetrate the hairs more quickly. My guess is that cold water would moisten the brush hairs as well as warm water. It might just take a bit longer in some cases.

Both cold and warm water moisten and open up the hair cuticle (outermost layer of the hair shaft). I read somewhere that warm water works better, but I haven't seen any data to prove it. It could be similar to the myth that hot water opens your skin pores, and cold water closes them.

It is not a chemical reaction because there are not any new products formed. However, it is a mixture. Temperature does affect the rate of absorption, but not the maximum water capacity of the brush. That is my take on it. I think the water/soap ratio is more of a factor for lathering, because you could always add more water to the brush to face lather.

Great photos and nice shave, Andrew! Hump Day! I've missed the photos of Declan and Logan. Glad to be back to see them! I got my set of Blood on Steel a couple of days ago. Terrific scent out of the tub.

Beautiful photo and nice gear, Robert!

Thanks Perry. If you're up this way and have limited time, start with Buffalo Trace. They have some of the best tours, IMO, and they're free. You need to register in advance for all except the Trace Tour.

One of our tour guides was Freddie Johnson. He was recently inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame. He was also featured in Neat: The Story of Bourbon. If you can manage to get on one of Freddie's tours, you won't regret it. Long story short...a few months ago, he took my Bride and and another couple on a private tour to see the Pappy VanWinkle barrels aging in the warehouse. I had planned to go on another tour that required some climbing and walking over open grating...my Bride was not interested. Freddie didn't want her to wait on me for an hour, so she got the VIP tour from the man himself. He's a class act. It would be like taking an Alabama Football tour with Bear Bryant.

Jim, great shave, pic and review. I like the Voskhod blades because they are sharp enough and they give smooth shaves. I mainly use them in my shavette.
