Today’s felt nice as a result of finally some variety following the JustOneJuly theme. I decided to go with the Long Rifle Hawkeye, sample size, so that I can finish off another soap. I have enjoyed the soap paired with the Pinaud Citrus Musk. Given that I have so many soap in the den at my pleasure, I will not be replacing this soap anytime soon. In the distant future, I may pick up another sample size.

As for today’s shave, the combination of the soap and the Proline allowed for an extremely close shave. That being said, the blade has found its final resting place in the bin following shave # 5. Extremely smooth feeling on the skin throughout except for the area around the jawline hinge which has a slight feel of AstroTurf.

Finally, we must of had a boat load of rain last night as the water line of the pool has risen about the skimmers. Welcomed rain as the lawn surely needed it. Sprinklers can’t top as good soaking by Mother Nature.

Same old, same old! DFS in three careful passes (WTG, ATG, XTG) on the mug further elevated into the ‘velveteen zone’ thanks to the Feather Super equipped RazoRock Hawk V3. Still struggling with straight razor stubble reduction. Minor right cheek weeper on my third and final XTG pass which disappeared after my MWF wash with the brush squeezings. The Hawk made short work of the noggin stubble in two passes (WTG, ATG) leaving me again velveteen, clean and cool!

RAZOR: DD Goldedge (Mug), Hawk V3 (Dome & Mug Cleanup)
BLADE: Feather Super AC
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by Rabid Banana Preshave Cube
BRUSH: Alpha Shaving T-400 Tribute w/ 24mm Synthetic Knot Ferrule
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Mentholated Mysterium Serum.

Straight Shave #190

Ralf Aust 6/8 Full Hollow Spanish Point
Omega Pro 49 Boar Brush
Chiseled Face Cryogen SS and AS

I dipped the dry brush 5x and a little harder than usual to get more soap on it. Wetted my face with my hands because I don't have a damp brush. Dipped tye brush tips with water and got a very nice voluminous lather. Did 2 passes and one minor touchup and got a IBSS++. However, on my first pass I poked my neck and got a little nick, and two tiny weeps. Styptic made them vanish. This is my second use since I honed this razor and it is sharp! I am thrilled with this edge. Applied the matching aftershave to finish this shave. Just a side note. I have not used open blades this many times on a daily basis so I am surprised that my skin is holding up. Anyway, it's a wrap for this month. Have a great day guys! View attachment 231499

The final shave of July 2020 is in the books and it was pretty memorable.
Sticking with the Sharp Star and its longevity test.
New brush today and momma, is she sweet.
The NOS Rooney, even with its almost-disappeared badger funk, is one of the softest,
most delicious knots I have ever used.
Friends, what passes as Best Badger these days is scandalous, compared to the Best hair of yore.
Also, the trend to PACK the brush with an over-dense amount of hair is not my cup o' tea.
Sure, if you like lathering with a tennis ball.
This knot is delicate, bunny rabbit soft and, as evidenced by the next photograph,
more than capable of creating a scrumptious lather:

I was pretty gentle on this knot, not mashing at all and careful not to over use
circular motions. Tried my best to focus on paint brush strokes.
One, little hair was lost, but if you think about it, it's a brand-new brush,
albeit of indeterminate age.
If there is anyone out there, that can assist me dating this brush, I would be grateful.
The numbers 185 are printed on the Rooney Red Box, if that is any help.
Now to the blade.
I chose a Pre-war, US Tech to combine with the Sharp Star.
Determined not to buff, I completed three passes without incident.
The blade is still quite sharp and as of today, showing no signs of demise.
I will ring in AUgust using this blade and report my findings.
The AoS Sandalwood products are outstanding.
Excellent post-shave feel with the ASG and ASB.
The scent is memorable.

The first thing you notice with Tabac, besides the glorious scent that fills the nostrils, is how quickly the lather builds, and how dense and creamy it is. There is plenty of slickness. MWF might have a slight edge...however, it's not a runaway. The razor can sill cruise along across the face without any issues. Even the residual slickness is excellent, easily allowing an extra pass without re-lathering. A few drops of water to the already shaved areas lets you do another pass - no probs.
Did my usual routine, and only got one small weeper in the hollow of my neck. Definitely user error. By the end of the shave, it was gone.
Like I usually do, the remains lather in the brush was put on the face while policing the area. After rinsing/wiping that lather off, I chose to forgo any sort of post-shave product to determine how the post feeling is compared to MWF. To me, MWF has a little more moisturizing feel, although, Tabac is no slouch in this department either. Even a couple of hours later, my face feels soft and moisturized. I'll still give the nod to MWF for this category.

I'm sure that I've mentioned this in previous posts regarding the Slim - TTO's just aren't my jam. They work just fine, and I can't exactly put a finger on why I prefer three-piece razors over them. This razor was given to me by my co-worker/friend. It was his dad's razor. Every so often, I feel obligated to break it out for a shave or two. I'm not about to say my technique is spot-on perfect, or that I've achieved a high level of mastery. However, I can tell that it's much improved over the last several years, since making the switch to traditional gear. I used to consider the setting of 9 to be somewhat aggressive, and it wasn't uncommon to have it bite, or to have irritation on my neck. Now it purrs like a kitten.

We'll keep the Tabac out for a few more days, just for fun. Really, the biggest winner between MWF and Tabac is you, if you own both.

I could've used 2 brushes, but then it would not be a consistent method for this experiment. However, it was a nice shave and I do enjoy the Cryogen.

I always get the left "Y"-perhaps being a lefty is the reason. Finished with Aqua Velva A.S. While the shave felt much better overall than that of yesterday, I could have done a little better. Let's give it a Quite Excellent.

Happy Friday everyone. I decided to bring out my other Wolfman WR-1 OC in Ti. This one has an increased blade gap of 0.74mm. Sticking with the Fougere Friday theme, I went with MdC Fougere today with PAA Chel as a preshave. The big boar loaded and lathered the MdC with ease while the Chel provided some chill. Three passes and touch ups easily caught the baby. A splash of Myrsol Balasamica and I am ready for the day. I hope everyone has a fantastic Friday.

July was another great month. On the positive side, I managed to knock out Mike's Lavender soap. On the other hand, I discovered that the TnS Gel Boar is not going to make the cut in my den. Things happen sometime. As usual the best part of the shaving month was hanging out with you guys. I look forward to participating in next months thread. The two are nothing alike. Not even close. Tabac, despite the name, isn't what many would classify as a tobacco scent at all. Nothing like walking into a humidor. Or the smell of a burning cigar. It's much more of a floral, powdery scent. I'm not suggesting that you'd love it - or that you'd hate it. It's just not remotely close to the scent of Clubman.
