SOTD Friday MORNING, JULY 2, 2021

Gratitude is something younger folk don’t generally give much credence to, but as we increase the number of solar rotations on the life card, and see those we’ve cared about move on without us, our friends begin to become younger and younger. I don’t mean to sound maudlin, but two months in a rehab facility gives one ample time for reflection. Now mind you, it did have its high points. My physical therapist was a very healthy young woman who worked me tirelessly, rotating limbs and really helping. She always smelled great. I told her my immediate goal was to get my dominant side back in the game so I could straight shave ambidextrously. She assures me that I’m making tremendous progress. Gross motor skills are back, and I'm working like a demon to get the fine motor tuned.

Todays’s shave featured my second Victor Creazzi Damascus shorty straight razor. Victor is a true master razor smith. He swapped out the original scales for his own custom made blue ‘Mycarta’ scales, his designation, not mine. My grandson was kind enough to strop it for me, and despite SWMBO’s conviction that I’ll end up cutting my throat open, the shave was great! My joke that that’s why straights are called “cut throat” razors by some, wasn’t received by my bride in the spirit intended. In any case, my one handed straight technique is improving, but I’m committed to returning to my preferred two handed approach. The LaResche 51 is just a great shaver, and it made quick work of my dome stubble. My MrEE LE SynBad knotted brush certainly contributed to the great MWF lather! I feel clean and velveteen smooth.

A nice shave early this morning. Hadn’t reached for the Platinum in quite some time and was rewarded with the usual excellent Fine lather. I also don’t reach for a Feather very often, but they are very good blades.
No idea for a focus yet, besides working my way through the Maximo Gomez.
Worked today, but am taking tomorrow off for Canada Day. Will probably shave Saturday at the lake.

I finished the most difficult year of public education in history, year 17 in total. I continue to shave and do my own foci, but I lost interest in taking daily photos and honestly was spending too much time on the computer and not enough with my family, so I've taken a break. At the same time, I value the friendships here and don't want to lose total contact.

Glad to see the focus thread is alive and well! I'm continuing to tackle my soap collection. I finished off a tub of Stirling Blu earlier this Spring and am now working solely on a tub of Stirling Boat Drinks. I finished off the Mitchell's Wool Fat and ordered another. I did buy a VDH Luxury soap that I saw in the grocery store, but otherwise have not bought any soap in a long time. I continue to rotate through razors and brushes, all the same ones you've seen over the years.

In any event, I wish all of you a happy and productive holiday weekend!

No need to describe the lather....y'all know it was good stuff.

I completed 2 quick passes that was smooth as glass. The alum was a little warm in a few places and after I applied the witch hazel I noticed a small weeper in an unusual spot. Upon further inspection it was a small bump that got clipped....I will not even count that...it should not have got on the way.

So, do I prefer the E or the F plate? I know Jason @jtspartan was inquiring about plates a while back.

Out of the two....I prefer the F plate. It is still smooth with just a hint and I mean hint of blade feel. It is a very efficient plate. Jason has the D plate and I really like the D plate as well. I would say that the F plate is a D plate with a turbocharger. Jason just skip the E plate and go for the F plate.

Fine shave this morning. 0:40(and 0:10 into the shave)to load the Maggard with the cold Stoylin. I probably should have used something else, as the temp. has dropped quite a bit since just 2 days ago. And what can I say...real good shave in all areas, taking more time at NW Porcupine than everywhere else. More "ice-chipping" across the Porcupine/Cactus border(at the jawline). Razor slid right across, no issues. A little better with the Vetiver A.S-that is, less of a Niagra Falls persuasion than yesterday. Good finish with the Pete Cardin("Pierre")cologne fragrance. I do the insides of my wrists and elbows(that it, as opposed to right on them). Outta This World Excellent.

Thanks Jeff! Actually, I have had the soap over a year and have used it from time to time. Jayarah included it with my JR #386 brush. I will.be using it more frequently because I want to Edmund Fitzgerald it.

Thanks to our dear friend @wristwatchb for stepping in for June. He did an amazing job and the thread was really terrific for the month. Yours truly said he was out, but as Michael Corleone said so eloquently: "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in".

Now, to be clear, no one held a gun to my head. The fact is I love this forum and this thread especially. True, June was a difficult month for me. The thoughts and prayers for my dear mother were so appreciated. Other than my partner for the last 37 years, shaving afforded me some relaxing moments. If you had asked me 7 years ago, if shaving was relaxing, I would have scoffed. The truth is, shaving is zen-like for me. As I am sure it is for most of us here.

Let’s get to the subject of this post:
What is the 30DC “Rule”?

Take ONE razor, ONE blade, ONE brush, ONE soap/cream and use them EVERYDAY this month. Many of us have accomplished this rule and all of us are better shavers because of it. I highly encourage those shavers---especially new shavers to consider a rule. You'll thank me in the end.

There is an alternative to the "rule".
The 30 Day “Focus”.
Vary the gear for each shave, save, for perhaps, one or two elements.
This is also a challenge, but is more accessible to the average shaver.
I know of no better way to get through a soap than to use it every day for 30 days.

There are some general rules that must be observed, and for the sake of clarity, I hereby post them for all to read:

1. New Members always welcome. Start anytime.
2. Old Members always welcome.
3. Respect everyone.
4. Refrain from political conversation.**
** This includes, but is not limited to: Covid-19, treatments and/or advice.
Please keep these discussions off of this thread and indeed, off of TSD.

We celebrate our nation's birthday this month, so what could be more appropriate than name this month: "Freedom Month". Use whatever gear pleases you. Just consider one or two lines in your daily post that might educate another. Being specific is not boring, it's the point of this thread.

My grandfather used to complain about getting old. Crap just happens after seven decades of walking this planet. After a two month absence from this forum in the hands of rehab pros, I’ve finally got the old carcass working again. I’ve needed to adapt my shaving routine a bit, but I’m back in the saddle. The question’s out as to whether I’ll be able to use my dominant left hand for straight shaving for a while, but I managed a one handed straight shave with my non-dominant right hand. The mug shave was acceptable with only two small nicks on my left side where I used to shave with my left hand. The dome shave was also a bit bumpy. The LeCoq Cagehead cleared away the dome stubble, but did take a great deal more focus to use my right hand. In any case It’s great to be back and looking forward to improving my shaves day by day again.

Good morning!

Fantastic Foúgere Friday shave! The Diamondback is so very smooth it always comes to mind whenever I read the various favorite razor threads.

The gelled boar face lathered effortlessly. It took a lot of uses to get it to break in but it's finally there.

As I was cleaning up I noticed water under the sink. Shoot! The drain rotted away from the sink. Fortunately I caught it early. The plan for today was to install a gate on the back split rail fence. Looks like some plumbing work is added to the list. Amazon has the matching part I need and for 2.99 extra it'll be delivered today. Cool! I've had to replace one of these before and I couldn't find what matches our fixtures locally. Should be a quick fix.

Straights are the focus this month. By the end of July, I want to be proficient in performing an ATG neck pass.
Thanks to @b1hart for the suggestion of using my Feather AC sans blade to practice.
It's mos def© a challenge.
Better lather today with the C&E, face-lathered with the rarely-used CH2 Synthetic.
Good shave, but the tip of the Wosty decided to go rogue and breach the epidermis on my right cheek.
Today's fragrance is courtesy of C.O. Bigelow.

For an apothecary scent, this juice rocks. Worth a look.

Well I was just browsing on the internet. You all know the story. Lol! I bought a new shavette. No, I did not get the Essence. I got the Equinox Professional Razor (Shavette) It caught my eye because you load the entire DE blade. That's right! I don't have to snap a blade in half. I use the same side of the blade and when it dulls, then I can use the other side.
