Should you also post to SOTD, even while doing a Rule or Focus?

Hence the advantage of using a round-point straight razor. ;)

Another great Derby Extra (5) shave. It felt a little rough at first, immediately after the shave, but once I finished getting ready for work, I could definitely say the shave was DFS. I'm not sure if I will push for a whole week, but we will try tomorrow, with the Derby. Hope you all have a great Friday.

Cold water shave focus day 5:

    Homemade PS Oil
WD High Mountain Badger 30 mm
    AOS Ocean Kelp SC
    '58 Gillette TV Special
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Florida Water AS

Another good cold water shave this mornin. My hand still reaches for the hot water, but I am getting used to the way everything feels when cold. I think the lather is the biggest change. I will try another shave with some menthol tomorrow to see how that goes.

I had to step away from the straight yesterday as work has been leaving me exhausted. It's been quite awhile since I picked up a DE but I needed to shave and I decided to shave my head as well due to work. Surprisingly the motions came back to me rather quickly as I used the trusted EJ89 and Voskhod combo. Nothing to be proud about but it was a decent shave especially consider I rushed a bit. I thought after shaving with a straight I'd never go back to a DE but yesterday made me appreciate them both.

Sorry for being late getting to the Focus. Wasn't sure what the focus was for this month. Splitting wood getting ready for Winter.

    Razor: Gillette Redtip, (A-3) 1955
    Blade: Gillette, Platinum (2)
    Brush: Fendrihen Silvertip 22/49
    Soap: Razo Rock, Don Donato
Mug: Soak my brush in the Old Spice coffee mug for about a minute.
    A/S: Osage Rub
Great shave tonight with this combination. Finding I'm getting a better shave with the Gillette Platinum blade than with the Feather. I like the Razo Rock Don Donato, and the Osage Rub A/S. I had trouble with this brush loosing hair when I first got it, but that is over now. Three passes.

Razor – Gillette New LC with Triad SS Helix
    Blade – Feather (1)
Brush – Brothers Bristles with WD HM
    Lather – TSD Signature
Post - Witch Hazel and Captain’s Choice Bay Rum

Great 3 pass near BBS shave this morning. About the best I can do on a work morning. After a rough start to the first week of this month's focus, the shaves have improved greatly. I think the Feather will be my go to blade with the New LC from this point forward. The combo for me is relatively mild and efficient. I'll start of with the Feather in the New Deluxe for next week and see how it goes. The TSD Signature soap is very easy to lather and slick. The scent is sort of a take on Bay Rum so it paired well with CC Bay Rum AS.

And the best news of the week is at long last my back is much better. Happy Friday. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Just got this razor back from being honed. It was the one I rolled the edge on while learning to strop, and then destroyed the bevel while trying to hone. The new edge is very sharp, but like Feather Blades for me, felt almost a little too harsh. I am hoping that my strop will help mellow it out a little bit. Haven’t used my Maggard’s soap or aftershave for a couple of months. Good stuff, with a mild scent that whips up into an easy lather. I ended up doing a full three pass shave today, as the razor just didn’t seem to be cutting the whiskers quite enough on the ATG pass. After the third pass, I am so freaking close to a BBS, but I still have a little more technique to work on under my chin. I’m going to get there!

Forgot to mention the best part of today's shave- Shower and shave, 18 minutes total for three passes including clean up. I didn't have to strop becuase the razor had just been honed, but that is the fastest SR shave I have gotten to date.

I lose track of time when straight shaving. I might need to look at that!

    Day#5 of 6; 30-Days of June
Fourth consecutive day of using the Big Red Imp. Although initially I was hesitant about choosing this particular spike-pointed razor for this 6-day period—mainly due to memories of numerous cheek slices from the deadly tip—I'm glad I went with this Imp. After this past week, the spike point really isn't an issue with good technique and this razor is truly a superlative shaver. Most of my 'war wounds' using this razor came early on in my SR 'training period'—when my technique was inconsistent and my razor-wielding hand wandered too far from the chin, leading to the tip poking or slicing the cheek.
One more day with this fine razor before I try something dramatically different in feel…..

    June Open Comb Focus
    Day 5

    Prep: Hot shower
    Razor: Gillette New SC
    Blade: Voskhod
    Brush: Omega 10083 Boar Brush
    Lather: Maggard London Barbershop Soap
Post: Cold rinse, Alum, Witch hazel, Aqua Velva Ice Sport

I'm feeling more and more comfortable with the Gillette New. Close to no irritation and zero nicks.

I've also noticed that I can get a great shave with a second XTG pass at the neck area instead of ATG.

Soap: Razo Rock, XXX- Fresh and clean; a cross between a classic Italian colonial and an old-school barbershop!
Old Spice coffee mug/soak brush, for about a minute.
    A/S: TSD-Coconut
Another great shave with this combination. Changed the soap as I like the old barbershop scent.
    Enjoy your weekend.

Yes!! Once you get the neck solved, it's all good.

    Beats rushing!

    Wow!
I have been cold shaving for months now, and warm lather actually feels weird!
Agreed. My experience is Glacial Obsidian, it's a bit tricky
