And tonight's nightly shenanigan begins...

 

Interesting question. I did something similar last month trying to determine the best blade for my R41. I had several thoughts while doing this focus. I really only use 1 brush so that was not a factor for me. I changed soaps however I think that to get the most consistent results you should use the same soap. There are problems even with this method because the lather could change from day to day. Another factor would be how often you shave, you would have to ensure that you shave at the same intervals to make sure that the results are consistent. Also, regarding switching razors, do you use new blades for each razor or use the same blade in the same order for the 3 razors?
I think to get the most accurate results using 3 razors you should use the same soap for all of the blades. Using the example of a Red, Blue and Flare tip and a Voskhod blade I would do the focus like this. One shave in the Red, swap the blade into the Flare for one shave and then swap it into the Blue for one shave. Then grab the next blade and repeat the order again. This method would give consistency in the results but only if you shaved daily. Skip a day and the results will be skewed. This would be a very long focus to get through a bunch of blades but it would result in showing you the best blade for the razors you were using. The problem is that most people here have more than 3 razors so even if you find the best blade for those 3 razors, will it be the best in the rest of the razors? It could be a never ending cycle. Sign me up!

Yeah this is really almost an impossible task to get any "real" data, but it would be interesting I think. I already feel like my blade trials and focuses are never ending. I'm always remembering a blade I haven't tried, then finding another. I have a thousand blades, mostly bulk Russkies, but a ton of others in pairs or singles just waiting for me to get to them. Then comes the question...do I want to give up that much time to this kind of focus?

 

I was really only expecting a Yuri or perhaps a Boris. But to get an Ivan on the first contact? Raise a bottle of vodka to the Russian Shaving Gods who so marvelously graced this humble Czar. And dance your butt off!

 

BTW if I decide to shave a bear like we talked about a few nights ago.... the ones from the motherland are a no go......
