That's high praise from a founder of the "Stunt Shavers of America"! :D

Honestly, it wasn't all that risky. The baseplate was sitting right there, just in case something didn't feel right. I'm not too proud to bail! I figured there was no reason I shouldn't be able to ride the cap and make it work. The one concern I had, was possible blade chatter.

It sounds like you may have already done what I did with this shave. By baseplate, I'm referring to the plate w/ the safety bar (on a 3-piece Gillette Tech). I put the blade on the top cap and screwed the handle on. Maybe I didn't use the correct term?

Either way, it was fun once, and I proved to myself that I can do it.

I didn't post my Saturday shave, but it was good. Used my wife’s new soap from Ginger’s Garden. Really good stuff I will be revisiting.

Today’s shave was one of the ones that just all come together really well. Was in a hurry, so grabbed a DE. Toggle on 6, with a 40 year old Wilkinson Sword blade from England. Barrister & Mann 42 in the old base. Soap is about halfway done, I saw the beginning of a ring today. Three passes, a little buffing, and the baby showed up to say hi. Zero irritation.

Hope everyone has a good Monday!

On mine, I modified the baseplate to remove the safety features, (like what everyone does to their power saws when they get them home.) haven’t tried no baseplate, yet.

Thank Adam! The wife and I are growing old together. We go out to dinner now and we end up sharing a pair of readers to see the menu.

If you can shave with a razor fabricated out of a soda can, this’ll be a walk in the park.

    Razor: Gillette New SC
Blade: Dorco STD-301 (a.k.a., Dollar Store Dorco)
    Brush: 30DC LE/Pure Badger
    Soap: FrankenMarvy
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

For today's shave, I have returned to the theme of the "basics" and pulled out the Dorco STD-301 blades. These are the generic "Made In Vietnam" blades sold at Dollar General, Family Dollar, and other fine stores. I initially tried them soon after I started this journey in a 60's SuperSpeed and hated them and subsequent tries with a Slim only reinforced that feeling. Last September, however, based on comments from @NCoxSTL , I realized that these blades are extremely thin and that, for me, they worked much better in a three-piece razor and were actually pretty decent blades. Today's razor was a newly-acquired New SC.

The New SC and Dorco STD-301 turned out to be a great combination, mild but effective. I suspect that the Dorco is slightly less sharp than the 7 O'Clock blade I used the other day, making for a smoother shave.

Just wanted to let you guys know I'm doing a Fathers Day PIF over at the TOST for a 1912 Gem travel SE razor w/case and shave creams and a new boar brush. Pop on over and throw your name in if interested. Was going to try to run it on both sides of the street but I'm not that savy at doing pifs so this ones over there and next one will be here .
