Looks beautiful and I suspect that after a few shaves you will forget all about the price. Looks great in gold and I think that the wear indicates that someone has like the razor enough to use it a lot More photos before and after the cleanup please and of course a shave report.
I'll give a report for sure. As for someone using and enjoying it, I kind of like that about it and makes me wonder who owned it before. It's a 1946-1947 so maybe it was serviceman's who got it after coming home from the war. Kind of fun to think about anyway!
I'd say you did really well there. Glad it suits you too. Looks like a good example to be fair. I think I'm about to list mine on a reasonably well know auction site. It's in great condition etc etc and shaves really well, but it's because of the good condition it's in that I hardly ever find myself using it. It's been sat in it's box for over 12 months now ... seems a bit of a waste when you consider I no longer collect razors. Nice find.
I have everything in that picture minus the actual razor. Same brush, bowl, soap, towel ring, and even the blades now LOL
Great find. New Old Stock on eBay are going for over $300. I'm looking for a Gillette adjustable and it's not been easy. It's hard to imagine these went for $5-10 back in the day. Enjoy!
That razor apprears to be an Aristocrat from the late 1940's. I would not call it a "very early Aristocrat." An early TTO Gillette Aristocrat would be the 1934 model, which is my fav. There also is an earlier Aristocrat from the teens.
My comment was to the version of the Aristocrat being very early in this production. The others are totally different animals. Just you would not consider British Aristocrats in the same discussion as this.
I recently scored the same razor, its a 46-47 Aristocrat (end caps, no notch). Not as rare as the British Aristo's but great razors none-the-less.
