I find it kinda funny that most of us (myself included) for most of our (prior to wetshaving) lives had a single razor and a single type of blades. Mine was a Mach 3 and the corresponding plastic Mach 3 cartridges. Back then, I'd venture to say none of us really gave it a passing thought. That was how we shaved, every day, all the time. Now, the mere thought of using only one razor and one type of blade for the duration is a thought too appalling for most of us to hold onto for too long . If I were off to a desert island for the rest of my life though, I would probably choose a Gem or Ever Ready Lather Catcher and Personna SE blades.
I would use my Merkur 1904 and Derby's. For single edge I would use my 1912 Gem and any kind of blade. I would use Shave Den Gingerbread and Spice soap.
Merkur Futur and Gillette 7 O'Clock SharpEdge (Yellow). For my face it is a combination that I cannot beat no matter how much I try.
Yep, this changes for me too, but today it would be a short-handled SA with 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge (Yellow) blades. Smooth and easy. BBS. Not to totally derail this, but Dave, I saw a Zinn a couple of weeks ago in an antique store. Black wood handle. Outrageous price. Are they really worth that much? Cool looking razor.
I like trying different setups, but I always return to the Merkur HD with Gillette sharp edge blades. I reserve the right to change my mind. :happy102
Since I only have a Merkur HD (so far) it would have to be that for the razor. I saw a link a bit ago about some guy who was on shave 30 for his one blade. Don't think I would be able to go with just one blade for life unless you guys all know something I don't? Oh, one brand/model of blade for life. So far that would be Dorco ST301 but don't think I could seriously get by with just one razor or blade. Gotta have some variety in your life.
Gad!! Don't let my wife see this post! :scared001 Seriously, I really do like the weight and feel of the Merkur HD and the Dorco is doing well for me.
