Dark Passage. 1947 Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall RIP Lauren Bacall passed away yesterday n New York she was 89 years old.
Carrie (2013) It was alright...not the best horror I've seen recently. (Let The Right One In and Oculus are amazing!)
Two B-movies. Alligator (1980) This was just bad in every sense of the word. Mosquito (1995) atrocious acting weak plot but as long as you don't take it seriously it should be somewhat enjoyable
Oculus is a psychological thriller. Plays on reality really really well! Its not one of the (American) jump out at you horrors, its more Gothic if you know what I mean...dark and not what you think. I don't know if this helps at all, but I didn't want to be posting spoilers. All I can say is it blew all my expectations away. I'd rank it up there with Rosemary's Baby and Psycho. Not as classic of course bit just as screwed up. And I could NOT predict the ending at all...which I love...the movie just kept weaving on different paths.
The Way of the Warrior, which was like a spaghetti Western, with ninjas, with a screenplay written and directed by the guys that did 300.
Later this afternoon; The Two Jakes 1990 Jack Nicholson, Harvey Kietel, Meg Tilly, Eli Wallach, Madeline Stowe
Later tonight after dinner; The Last Detail 1974 Jack Nicholson, Randy Quaid Trivia : Jack Nicholson turned down the role of Johnny Hooker in The Sting (1973) (ultimately played by Robert Redford), to appear in this film, which was written by his good friend Robert Towne. Nicholson thought that The Sting was too commercial. Both he and Redford were nominated as Best Actor of 1973 at the Academy Awards, losing out to 'Jack Lemmon' in Save the Tiger (1973). John Travolta was strongly in the running to play Meadows, only losing to Randy Quaid at the last minute. Factual Errors: The MAA Master Chief is not wearing a Master-at-Arms rating badge, he is wearing a Boatswain mate rating badge. The Master At Arms rating was disestablished in 1921, but was officially re-established on 1 August 1973. Therefore, as the story takes place, a Master Chief Boatswain's Mate being assigned the collateral duty of MAA is entirely accurate. The P-coats being worn by the sailors aren't Navy regulation for that period, since they use black plastic buttons instead of silver ones.
Operation Crossbow (1965) Good WWII espionage/action film with a young George Peppard and a brief cameo by Sophia Loren. Steamboat Bill, Jr. (1928) Really good Buster Keaton film. The storm sequence towards the end is fantastic with some great stunts and effects.
I see Patrick digs a good film noir...me too...I watched "Laura" for the first time in like 30 years...I watched it with a bunch of younger friends....They didn't dig it....unbelievable....They were like laughing and making cracks like"you don't get to pick films anymore"...I don't get it...I like the good new films but I also dig the classics...New Times.. I see some of you guys digging Phycological Horror....I saw "Shutter Island" recently for the first time. I highly recommend it...I think it should be a modern classic in that genre...but it's pretty dark...I heard it didn't do too well at the box office....maybe too dark for your average modern movie goer... Oh, and saw Chaplin's "City Lights".....I've never seen the whole thing, I've seen that boxing scene and a couple other scenes but Man! This movie is timeless, My wife and I laughed til we cried....
