Gonna post this here...forgive the temporary hijack... Does anyone know of a good version of Great Expectations? I have seen several, including the newest? And so far the best has been the 1946 rendition. Is there one that can top it? Thanks and sorry for the temporary hijack. :/
Not the original, the 1978 Donald Sutherland version. This is a rare case where I like both the original and the remake of a movie.
The Host Fun movie. I like everything I've seen Kang-ho Song in so far. The only downside of this movie for me was the lame CGI. It was 2005 so I guess I shouldn't be too critical. Raw Deal (1948) Decent Film Noir about an escaped convict seeking revenge. I thought Raymond Burr was good as a villain. Network I really enjoyed this movie. The dialogue was very well written and there were many heated scenes that had very few cuts in them. I did think the last 15 minutes or so seemed kind of tacked on like they didn't know how to wrap the story up. Very good acting throughout though.
Chronicles of Riddick. More entertaining than Pitch Black Dead of Night AKA Deathdream. I suggest you avoid this. I much prefer the horror atmosphere and killing scenes of old movies (this one is from 1972) but it was just not entertaining and had no real redeeming qualities.
Watched this the other night. May be the best movie I've seen in months. Luc Besson does it again. Really, really held my attention from the beginning all the way through. Trailer
I really do not like most movies made by John Wayne, there are a few that I like and will watch. My Father had his reasons for not wanting to watch or even like him as an actor. I saw a western today that was made in 1953 Hondo it was in color and was Warner Bros. first attemp at a 3D Movie, you could really tell that it was made on a sound stage (watching it in High Def really shows the back ground.) John Wayne , Geraldine Page Lee Aaker (if you remember the Adventures of Rin Tin Tin) if you want to se trivia look at the link below. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045883/
I really liked this film. I thought it was very different to a lot of american films based more on suspense than action. Also SPOILER ALERT most films never kill off the heroine right at the end. But films are like shaving YMMV
I saw two movies in one day with Julianne Moore in without even knowing she was in it. The first was DON JON a really funny film, best described as a romantic comedy for men. The second was CARRIE the 2013 remake it was good but the ending of the original was better.
Just saw TOO BIG TO FAIL. It is about the financial crisis and basically how stupid and short sighted the people in charge were. It is frightening to see how close we come to a complete financial collapse, and how we came so close due to a series of bad decisions made after the banks had made their mistakes. I am thinking about storing my money under the mattress now.
Saw Guardians of the Galaxy last night, I really, really enjoyed it and my wife said at least it wasn't completely horrible. We don't have similar tastes in entertainment. Obviously.
If you want to see good suspense movies that will get your palms sweaty I recommend these: Mientras Duermes AKA Sleep Tight(2011 Spain)- A stalker visits a woman at night without her knowledge The Forbidden Door (2009 Indonesia) - a Man's family conspires against him. You will never predict the endings to these.
It would be a ringing endorsement for my wife to even sit thru most movies I watch. I think she just has better taste than I. I watched two last night, both were a complete waste of time, but Bunraku was at least entertaining. It's kind of sad to see how far Kevin Costner has sunk.
The new Godzilla. Not impressed at all. I fell asleep for the last quarter because it just was not moving along. The only good actors were Malcolm in the Middle dad (sorry can't remember the name) and Ken Watanabe. But neither played major roles.
Do you remember the remake of the remake, with Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman, "The Invasion" ? I thought the first two were cool but didn't really get into the last one, although my parakeet was watching it with us and got scared and flew into the wall....Pretty funny...after that we had to be more careful of which films we'd let her watch....ha,ha...
