Me and the wife are in for a low-keyed, quiet and deeply introspective evening. So, we're headed to see "The Hateful Eight".
The Godfather I, II, and III over the last 2 nights. I even resisted quoting lines (for the most part) since my wife was kind enough to join me.
Went to see In the Heart of the Sea. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Really helped with the visualization as I read Moby Dick.
Last night was, One Million Years B.C. with the lovely Raquel Welch and then the cheesy, It Came from Beneath the Sea. Today was the French classic, Alphaville. Not sure what I'll watch tonight.
The Hateful 8. Received many good reviews, but I absolutely found it a complete waste of two hours. Slow, talky, obscene & ultra-violent. Just a disappointingly bad movie going experience.
Wait...you went and saw a Tarantino movie and was surprised about the violence and lengthy dialogues? It's a bit like going to see Star Wars and be disappointed in the lack of ponies. With any Tarantino movie you're pretty much guaranteed that there will be an abundancy of racial slurs and gratuitous killing a la 1970's splatter movies.
Yes. Dexter had its share of violence and blood-letting, but the writing was excellent and you found yourself actually caring for or at least held some concern for the characters. Not a easy task on a series about a 'likable' serial killer.
Actually having some ponies in the latest Star Wars film may have helped... And I wasn't surprised at the Tarantino film-I've seen all his other seven films. 'Disappointed' would've more accurate. I enjoyed 'Inglorious Basterds' and was expecting much more from this film.
I used to be a pretty big Star Wars fan but for whatever reason I just can't get excited enough it anymore to even drag myself to the theatre to see this one. Oh sigh...1977...
