I watched Pixels. I want looking forward to it as if was an Adam Sandler film but it want too bad. Fun entertain film. Not brilliant but a good way to pass the time. 6/10
I also saw The Woman in Gold. Don't want to give away any spoilers but suffice to say it want what I expected. In fact it was much better 7.5/10
I don't remember that either. I just read a description of the film and its actually way worse than I remember. Here is a link to a slightly humorous retelling of what might be the most gruesome children's film of all time. http://www.thegloss.com/2013/02/22/odds-and-ends/terrifying-childrens-movies-watership-down/
I am not a fan of scary movies, but we watched this one because the original Woman in Black, with Daniel Radcliffe, was good. This movie was not, it was predictable and never really spellbinding. On the other hand, the original was a good movie, that happens to be scary.
Somehow missed on this show in the past. Starting catching up on old episodes on Netflix and enjoying.
Sherlock is a masterpiece. The ones with Moriarty... He is one of the most insane bad guys I've ever watched.
I wouldn't follow the example in the movie that the way to straighten out a difficult wife is to put her over your lap and spank her (unless you're both into that sort of thing). It can lead to significant legal difficulties present day. I always like that movie, I probably saw it half a dozen times, but haven't watched it in 15 years or so.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens Not too bad, it is kind of derivative and sometimes repetitive of the original. But I am happy they made it...
2001: A Space Odyssey. And once again, I ask myself why. (bought it in a 4 set with FORBIDDEN PLANET and Pal's THE TIME MACHINE. Soylent Green also.
Thoroughly enjoyed the movie but can totally understand the comparisons to Star Wars, A New Hope. Very similar story line.
Finally got around to watching Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens I'd say I am - or at least used to be - a rather big Star Wars fan. Loved the first three. Lukewarm about the three after that - and had so-so hopes for this one. Long story short: It was very 'meh' for me. I felt as if it tried way to hard to be a homage to the first movie and often there were scenes - and storylines - that made me wonder if it was a re-boot. The story was pretty thin and thinking back about it it could all been covered in a 10 min shortfilm. Acting was also spotty - especially cringe worthy were the dialogues between the x-wing pilots during battle scenes. I'd give it a 4/10 in part because I think it was, to me, the nail in the coffin on this IP.
For me it was kind of a reboot. I got the impression that it was deliberately made similar to A New Hope in a way to start over. It was nostalgic enough for my generation and updated enough for the new generation but obviously steered in a different direction than all the last movies. I pretty much hated all the newer SW movies and was really disappointed with the updated originals that Lucas forced on the masses. I'm glad he sold the franchise. He ruined the series and went back and ruined the originals. It really ticks me off that you can't even buy the original movies on Blu-Ray. You're forced to buy his updated versions. I blame Lucas for ruining the Indiana Jones franchise too. I rarely go to the movies and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls was the first movie I had gone to the theater to see in about 2 years. I was horrified. I left there pissed. I have pretty low expectations for the next one but I'm assuming they will go back to their original formula as kind of an apology. I hope anyway.
As I said it felt repetitive and derivative of the original. Another issue, I had with it was that it seem to cram the plot of three movies into one. Look how fast they destroyed the new weapon considering it took up to three films to destroy the Death Star before... The girl was the same character as Luke, strength of the force she has 2. The X fighter attack was a copy of the original. A guy in a mask had been turned to the dark side. It was very much déjà vu..
