Stiff and backbone are not words I would use to describe the Plisson brush. It has very soft bristles which give a great face feel, and I find that if you press into your face a little, the splay is great for face lathering. The lack of backbone isn't an issue for me, so long as I load it with softer soaps/croaps. I don't try and use it on hard puck type soaps. It is a nice addition, and I think you will enjoy.
