Is that because the other two were made post 1897? Seriously these sound good. I might have to try one for myself.
No, actually the Cella might even be the most modern one! Though there's not much variation in the formula of straight lavender scents, of course, beyond the quality of the lavender oil itself. The Cella and Piver use French lavender, and are very similar in scent. The Caldey uses English lavender, and I believe it's a bit sweeter. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
I recently purchased Thayers lavender WH. It smells little like the dried lavender I remember growing up. The TWH is too floral as opposed to the more musky/woodsy I recall and prefer. For me it depends on the type, strength and combination for it to be a desirable finished product. Best of luck and happy discoveries. More lavender variety than I was aware of: https://www.mountainvalleygrowers.com/Lavender.htm
If you are still tinkering I hope you do something similar to Frederic Malle Musk Ravaguer or Guerlain Mouchoir de Monseiur or Jicky. My three favorite lavenders. I wanna feel dirty
I have a total of 15 soaps, 7 of them list lavender as included. I like lavender as either a base or mid-note, but it is pretty easy to overwhelm the scent with it. Most of mine are added to other floral notes and sweet or citrus scents. I'm a pretty big fan overall.
Martin de Candre has their soaps marked down. I just got a 200g jar (glass, I hope) of their original (lavender) for $54 shipped.
Thank you everyone for all of your generous replies. I wasn't sure what response I'd get regarding lavender and blends. Apparently there are many who enjoy it so I will forge ahead! Thanks again!
Im a fan, but like you...I like it with other scent notes. My favorite is TOBS jermyn street. It is like visiting a flower shop by the ocean. Terrific smell.
I like lavender, but like Drygulch, I don't have a straight lavender soap. Lavanille is my favorite combination soap right now.
I love lavender, especially the wonderfully scented Bonny Doon Farms Uplands bath soap. Neil's Yard makes a shaving soap with an excellent lavender scent. Unfortunately, it suffers from the vanishing lather issue. Now if some artisan soapmaker were to make a lavender shaving soap that both smells really nice and works well for shaving...
@Sara-s speaks truth! Lavender-Spruce, two great scents that go great together! She whipped up a shave soap for me with this combo and it is amazing, both in smell and performance.
On/Off topic my friend makes a VG home brew and uses some nice aromatic hops. Wonder is anyone has experimented with adding hops as a shave scent. There are some that are citrusy, floral and piney hop scents. BTW they don't smell or make one smell like beer since it's just the hops that I'm referring to not the processed grains or finished beer. I've been informed that shave soap with beer does exist. I'm referring to just hop or hop extract. EDIT: Found this a provider of hop oil for scents.
Update! I soaped my new scent yesterday and it smells divine if I do say myself! Love how it turn out! Thank you all for your feedback
Now I need to focus on using a few existing tubs up so I can justify more soap. I shave every other day, and only use each soap once a month.
I have Lavender scented soap, witch hazel, hand soap and after shave balm. Almost forgot my pre shave oil as well Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
I live in Northwest outside of Port Townsend, Washington. Lavender is grown all around here. Every summer Sequim, Washington a few miles from me has the annual Lavender Festival. Actually there are many varieties of the lavender plant and the scent varies quite bit. A shave soap would be interesting. The photo from jmaier above does show a typical lavender field.
