Well I got an email from PayPal today with a tracking number that my black arkie was on its way to me. Probably be here Monday or Tuesday. That was good news.
Hmmmm.....this is something I've not read before. More often then not, JNats are used to soften harsh edges or provide a silky-smooth feel to an edge. Of course, as were talking about natural stones, not all JNats produce the same results. Adam, you need to see about giving this JNat a test run... Looking forward to your report... NAKAYAMA MARUICHI KAMISORI KARASU LV 5+....$2000.00
I am an absolute idiot for spending money on this hobby, but I can't see buying a rock that is worth more than my car, unless my wife will be wearing it.
I believe we ALL are idiot's. But it is good harmless fun. Besides we all smell good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Perhaps a smaller TomoNagura would be more comfortable to wear around the neck. Those big nakayamas can be quite heavy...
"Philadelphia Works Celebrated American Razor" "Set Ready For Use, And Universally Approved". It's old, and it's heavy. I like it. Approx 1/4 Wedge. Full hone, and approx. 100 laps, each side of the SB Arkie 600/1000 grit lapped. Wickedly sharp. Shave will be tonight.
Ok My black Arkansas stone came in. It's black and bench sized. But...It needs to be lapped. The surface doesn't have tool marks or anything like that. Both sides are perfectly smooth...But the arkansas stones I currently have are smoother and shinier than this one with the plastic off of the box. (Of course I have lapped them) But for $66 instead of $180-$340+ it's not a major issue to me. One more time the website is this one: LINK Now it isn't translucent...But for 8x3x1 a translucent Arkansas is all that money...But if a smaller translucent Arkansas will do, they have them for a more modest price than the other guys.
I used a Sharpie and marked the hone, then lapped it. I the Sharpie will not soak into this stone, and permanently mark it. I wouldn't do this with a White Translucent though. What are you lapping it with first? Are you lapping it on both sides, with two differing grits, as I did?
Yeah... Probably so. That's my plan at least. I have 6 different grits showing up on Wednesday. (According to USPS tracking) From 220-1500 I will likely find something that should work well. The 6 snuff sized cans were $10 plus another $10 shipping (ughh).(eBay) So $20 in all. But if any are interested in a link I can provide it.
Post the link. I'm sure other Arkie owners might need it. I look at the two sides of my Arkie as a progression. Like having two stones in one.
Ok...The link for the powders: LINK This guy says that they are for polishing bottles. But I'm thinking that this stuff will be just fine for black arkies.
Yeah...I'm thinking that you might do better with a supplier a little closer. I'm thinking that there was a supplier in Ukraine... Can't remember now.
