When did this brush become "brush of the gods"? Because it got discontinued? It wasn't very special before all this
i think it was chris bailey The Shaving Evangelist, who started calling it that, at least he's the first person I heard say it. It is an incredible brush.
Several factors possibly play into this situation, as you noted, the brush has been around for some time without much fanfare: - favorable word of mouth by users combined with its new lower price point. - A result of both the new low price AND plenty of discussion, the brush has become increasingly more difficult to keep in stock and thus, even more desirable to acquire due to it's elusiveness. Being one of the Cool Cats also has a certain appeal to buyers. Think i-phone owners when they first came out.
I think price has a Lot to do with it. During all those times when it is gone from the L'Occitane website and there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth about it being unavailable and possible gone forever, the same brush, in a variety of handles, is available from Plisson, but at a higher price (52 Euro and up, depending on handle choice, plus shipping). So at $30 it's the brush of the gods, but at $59+, no one is getting all excited. Actually, with the Euro where it is, it might be a good time to pick up one of them pretty-handled Plissons...
