If you want a true 5 oclock shadow where the stubble is just starting to show then you'll have to shave every couple of days depending on your beard growth and let it grow back. But if you want it a bit longer you could try something like the Gillette Styler that has a couple of combs for specifically for close cropped beards.
I ended up getting a Panasonic wet/dry trimmer that can be used with my shaving soaps. I used it this morning and it worked quite well with MDC. I posted this question on several forums and the response from several people was kind of surprising. First to those who made efforts to answer the question, thank you! You are the reason that I enjoy these forums. To those who I can only assume thought she was holding a gun to my head forcing me not to shave I can only shake my head. She made an off handed comment about liking that I hadn't shaved and I decided to pursue this. She has no knowledge I'm doing it. If I didn't want this it wouldn't be happening. I'm still using my soaps and aftershaves, I'm still shaving a portion of my face. I'm learning a new skill in shaving, edging. To those who's only response was that of negativity and that she is trying to change me I have a question for you. Have you never made an effort with your significant other to try something that makes them happy? Even if it was solely for their benefit I would still make the effort but this is something that I also want so I fail to see the problem. Enjoy your shave in whatever form that takes today.
This week my woman bought me a skin care treatment and Botox. I'm happy with or without the Botox but it makes her happy. She puts up with my evil ways so no problem taking a few pokes for her.
I have a Weck hair trimmer with a guard. I use it to trim my wife and daughter's hair on occasion. One of these may work for you. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
I shave every other day so half the time I have stubble. I suggest you do the same. That way you get to enjoy your shave and all that comes with it half the time and she gets to enjoy a bit of stubble half the time.
Dude, I get it. My wife likes stubble too so I give her Saturdays, some Sundays, and most days we're on vacation. During the week I have the built-in excuse to shave for work and it's legitimate. I'm down with compromising for the women of our lives.
If you are referring specifically to my post, it was simply in reply to Bama Samurai's post (itself stated to be in jest). It wasn't any criticism aimed at you. And to answer your question, yes, I have often done things solely for the benefit of my girlfriend. Keep in mind that for Girlfriend 2.0, she who loved baby bottom smooth faces, that was looonng before the current wetshaving revival. Getting really smooth shaves back then with a Trac II and goo was a big pain in the butt. I remember looking at the budget-friendly double-edge blades in the drugstore, and wishing I had a razor could use them. Aw well, c'est la vie. At least there is shaving info available online now.
I should clarify, my post earlier today wasn't aimed at anyone here, if I didn't catch crap from you guys then something would be really wrong. I wrote it specifically for a couple Facebook forums and it was too early to write anything different for here so I just did the copy/paste thing. It's all good
The big question is, do you like the "Stubble" look and feel? If "No", then, is pleasing the girlfriend worth the "Stubble"? If not, clean shave, and see if she sticks around. But, if she comments, "Off Handed", that she thinks you would look good in a "Top Knot", find another girlfriend. You have to draw a line at something.
One of the most interesting questions I've seen here in a while. And some clever solutions! I'm definitely curious to see which routes you take! In the meantime, maybe you could start a site of your own...The UNshave Den lol! What a neat concept of finding out from a group of passionate hobbyists of removing hair to work their hobby in reverse! I love TSD.
Great post! And even though it was an off hand comment by her, you still took the time to recognize it AND apply it to your hobby. My gf loves my hobby...doesn't always like my particular choice of scents and doesn't demand I use or don't use one, or often agree with my sense of hairstyle etc etc, but, apparently like you two, we let each other do our own thing but try to take suggestions or respect and consider each other's ideas. Glad you found a part of your hobby to share!
Up until very recently my work was very strict about facial hair but they have relaxed the rules a little. I do enjoy the stubble and would have done this sooner had I been allowed. I'm cutting at .5 mm and shaving everything from the top of my Adams apple down. The razor also works great with my shaving soaps. I'm on my way to her house now, we'll soon find out how much she likes it. And there's zero chance of a man bun happening
