By the time the adjustables came out, Gillette was also long since in the business of trying to get people to "upgrade" their razor at least once a decade (when the patent on the current blade had run out and they needed to get people locked into a razor using a "new, improved" and just-coincidentally proprietary blade-holding system again to preserve market share.). So if adjusting the mechanism with the doors tight did stress the razor enough to cause risk of failure after several years, I am not entirely convinced that Gillette would have put a warning in the instructions anyway. Just a nasty suspicion...
