Some months ago I started a thread on low cost shaving soaps/creams...here is the summation of that thread: "Many thanks for all your suggestions. Here is what we have so far for soaps/creams under $5. I make no promises regarding quality or performance…obviously YMMV. Also, there may be local soaps from around the world that may be in the under $5 range…sorry if I missed any. And you may find soaps on sale. If my calculations are correct you could outfit your shave den with 20 soaps/creams for under $100." Arko Williams Nivea Original Shave Cream. Godrej Shave Round is apparently a very inexpensive soap - under $4; the cream is decent but not spectacular for me, but I cannot vouch for the soap itself. Ogallala soaps have some fans and are under $7 in many listings, and you like bay rum. Omega (the same company that makes the boar brushes) markets a eucalyptus shave soap under $7, as does Wilkinson Sword. Several different brands have shave sticks under $6 (Palmolive, Speick, Ogallala).
I've seen Cella recommended. For cheaper and maybe better (I think so) I would say Vitos Extra Super. Almond cherry scent. TVB shaving sells it for $23 a kilo shipped to the US. About $10 cheaper than Cella ($33 shipped)
I actually really like the Van Der Hagan Deluxe shave soap. The first few shaves with it were less than stellar, but that was because my lather building technique was poor. Once that started to improve, so did the shaves !!!
Haha really? I quite like the scent. Maybe you could trade your tabac with someone for something more to your liking?
Colonel conk bay rum is nice and cheap and the van der Hagen luxury soap I find it's much nicer than their regular soaps
I'm surprised this hasn't been recommend yet. .......... Arko There I said it. Puck or stick amzingly low price for excellent performance.
Wow. I appreciate all of the advice. I knew if I asked, you guys would come through. Time to do some research and place an order.
VDH deluxe works fine for me (better if I add essential oils to it). Not to sound super cheap, but what about samples? They normally are very cheap (or free) and can last a while. Each time I run by the mall I pick up samples at AOS and Body Shop; both lasting a week or two.
