If you break up the Ramen noodles when they're uncooked and sprinkle them over a salad with some chicken pieces and mandarin oranges.

As for the mac... :happy088 Enjoy!

    Mac Pro Quad Core

Those are the specs for his work mac right? Because that sounds like a sweet 5-10K just for the tower. He must do something that involves something that is very video/picture intensive.

Yeah, it's his company's Mac. Just under $5K for the Mac. Lots of graphics and video.

Those are wonderful computers for graphic intensive work. I was going to say, I think you outdid your self for a home computer :D

Even the MacBook Pro I bought did THAT. But a 10 Gig, 2 Terabyte for home use might just be overkill. :D

Very true. Although if I were going to spend 5k on a computer with a quad core processor and 10 gigs of ram, it better be cooking my eggs in the morning for me and shaving me with a straight razor.

Time to go enjoy the college life ::

Perhaps mac n cheese would be more appropriate than ramen in this case. :happy097

Congratulations Michael , now Enjoy Life !

if you need any help at all getting started which is basically a no brainer with OSX .

I agree with Bobby about the malware dont think just because your on OSX your SAFE . People saving financial info on a computer are just dumb ! sorry to put it so bluntly with respect to the older generation who didnt grew up with computers like I did. I have heard and read so many a horror story.
if you so persist on keeping financial-secret info on the computer then please PLEASE
atleast Encrypt it :Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with 256-bit or 128-bit key length.

I encrypt most stuff with a 128bit Key because I dont have Leopard installed when I do the encryption goes to 256. when my future HD´s will arrive I will totally enrypt-format it as a whole for 256/bit.

There are cool programs on the mac that will for example remember all your password settings and url for each page in an encrypted environment my only problem is how is the program itself protected ,you see lets assume some hacker gets into your mac and then runs that program it would mean he has total access to your paypal-ebay forum accounts and what not. ! unless you would need to supply a password to launch that prog not sure how they do that I will have to look into it.

For starters Michael alot of program updates and freeware to get you started can be found here.

For starters make sure you have Remote access control to OFF ! and your internal Firewall set to ON !

My mac does.. doesnt your XP do that Jaykay  that was the first reason to get it in the first place. :happy102

Seriously QuadCore is Mayhem processing power Id love it but at that price its certainly overkill certainly for me since im not into video editing except a bit of photoshopping which my Dualcore is fast enough for.

college life ! lucky you ...you have no idea.... or maybe you do because you certainly found this place and know about shaving wish I had the internet when I was at college only network we was on was the old BBS network. remember those Michael to good old 5600 Baud modems.. :happy102 you dont wanna know !!!!! my phone bills back then

That is amazing that you say that. I just purchased my first mac - after 30 years with PC's. It is without a doubt the easiest to use and setup, that software is much more intuitive. and the support - I take my IPod or mac 3 miles to the Apple store, go to the genius bar and within a few minutes, I have a REAL PERSON in this city (not anywhere else in the world) working on my unit. I also purchased 1 to 1 training. I get an hour of hands on 1-1 training, with systems, projects, website building, etc, every week for a year. Thats $2.00 per hour, for individualized training.

Don't tell me a MAC is expensive.

I'm trying to convince the wife I really need a Macbook to complement my iMac... She doesn't seem to see it the same way as I though...

As for quadcore....Most progams besides a select few servers OSs, video, and image editing programs cant use anything more than dual core. A supprising amount of programs dont even use dual core at the moment. Its the mother board itself distributing the quadcore load between two processors. My laptop is quad core and it is awesome though.

As for college life...I like to think I'm at the core of everything wonderful but wont get into details.

Now back to our cracking and hacking and whatnot. In terms of stealing financial information, mostly it has nothing to do with the user himself saving anything important. It is your computer. Your computer saves a little somethingsomething from every site you visit on the internet. It could be as easy as getting into your temperary internet files to take your SS and bank ID. I suggest keeping your browser cache size as small as possibe, have it save your info as little as possible, earse your temporary internt files asop and turn off cookies, automatic direct x downloads, etc.

If your looking for a pretty good browser that not may people go after in terms of viruses and malware I would suggest Opera.

I guess the college life takes care of what a mac would do for me. Plus, college ladies come with more hardware and software :laugh042

Michael, I second Rene's endorsement of VersionTracker, and would add to check out and subscribe to Other World Computing's email updates. Mostly stuff they're selling, but also really good for Mac gossip and new product updates.
