The two edges on your jig may be a problem. When starting your belt it may veer to the side before you track it down the middle. It's very frustrating when you ruin belts that you haven't even run. Otherwise fantastic jig. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
The belt is only on that one wheel. It is a 24" belt with a very tight friction fit. I have no idea if this will work or not. I have not seen this type of setup before. I am looking for a motor on the cheap. Then I can see if it works. Also my rest adjusts forward and backwards. Thank you for your insight. Do you think this type of wheel setup will work? If not I guess I will make a frame for the more standard 3 wheel setup. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Funny you should ask. I went to see my parents this afternoon. My dad had a motor. So I am good to go yo mount my grinder contraption up. If all goes well I might have some better update this weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The old nut buster shifter. I had a Schwinn with the shifter, sissy bar and slick. Those were the days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That is a beaut. What type of steel? Did you heat treat it yourself? Most importantly how does that baby shave. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm a very new to straighten razor shaving. As of now only 1 full shave under my belt! And that was with a dinosaur I made a couple of years ago! 52100 steel, and buffalo horn scales. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
I know I'm late to this post.... but just wanted to say. I really like the set up your working on! Looks a lot like some of the jigs knife guys use. I'm assuming you're going to be able to slide the blade along the rest. I've made more then a few razors and I've tried a handful if different set ups. In the end (a few years back) I found it best to just free hand the grind. It gives you a lot more room to work and correct any problems that may pop up. I really like the razor shape, keep it up and good luck! The only thing I would change a little would be to use some thing something like 1084 steel. It's really simple to HT, hard to mess it up!
Thanks for the steel tip. Yes i will be able to slide along the rest. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The only reason I bring it up is O1 is best when you have the ability to soak it for a bit at a specific temp. 1075-1080-1084... they just need to be heated to nonmagnetic and quenched, nothing fancy. Lastly, I would use one set up (speed) for removal/ start of post HT grind, then a slower set up for final grind. As the edge gets thin, it heats up really fast ..lol. Interested to see how it turns out!
