We are on the exact same page of the same edition of the same book.

There is something pleasingly cathartic about using a straight.

March 22 (Wednesday ) - SE focus -- ok so it's an injector not a Gem, so sue me...

    Schick E2 / Schick Chromium ( 5)
    Muhle silvertip synthetic
    Proraso White soap

Used my Schick E2 injector for the first time in quite awhile. It felt incredibly small and nimble after using the Gem SEs for three weeks. Very relaxing too. Good prep + good skin stretching + light pressure = one pass DFS with no bites. Didn't bother with any postshave products.

I really enjoy using a straight. I think that there is an elegant pageantry associated with a straight razors shave. The focus required to prepare the razor, the stropping, the soap and lather, the careful scraping of the lather off the face several times, and the finish with the aftershave, all combine to make what used to be a chore into something that makes me calm and soothes me to get me ready for the day.

The chance of screwing up and having everyone ask me what happened to my face for a few days is just a bonus.

The only conversation I have ever had about shaving with anyone other than my wife or son. So I guess it gives me a chance to share my hobby.

This is why many of my coworkers know I use a straight.

I can't believe how compact the knot looks on the brush. Is the brush as soft as it looks?

I hear people talk about how they "converted" people to wet shaving. Nobody who knows me seems remotely interested in having their face look like mine did.

Not a ton of time today, so the Feather came out, and I went to the Duke. If I had to hurry up and shave in the mornings every day, that could very easily be my only brush. I really like that one.

    Last night of the Silvertips:

The Thater brush was one I bought not too long ago because I kept hearing now great their silvertip knots were. Reports were right.

The handle is simple and functional. The way one holds it though, I wish it were a bit longer. The flat strips running along the length are grippy, but it almost needs a lip or ridge to wrap a finger around, or be long enough to palm it. The polished black looks great under the three band knot. The coin/emblem in the bottom of the handle is a nice touch. The tips are as soft as any badger I have used, and it is a pretty dense brush. Feels full on the face when it is splayed, and typical to three bands, isn't really scrubby, but has a good presence. I find the knot very similar to the Simpson Super, it just doesn't have the price tag. It scored pretty similar to the Tulip, mostly it just lost a little bit on the comfort of the handle.
