I agree. I should have added don't get the CH2 Synthetic thinking it will use less soap. In my experience it just eats soap up. Given my current soap inventory that might not be a bad thing.
Day 11 of 30 days of straights I used a FrameBack razor for the first time today. It was a very loud razor. At the same time, it was also very effective, requiring only 3 passes to get my first straight razor BBS. I did get one small cut through a rookie mistake, but the overall shave was excellent, especially on my problem areas. DIY Pre-shave Oil MDC based Uber-Lather 30mm High Mountain White set an extra 10mm deep 3 passes, WTG, XTG, XTG 6/8 square toe Japanese FrameBack
It was a great day. The only downside was that I had to miss my son's very first baseball game. I grew up playing baseball, and have definitely been looking forward to the day that he starts. But, it made more sense for my wife to take him to the game so she didn't have to keep the baby in Houston all day long. I did get a chance to spend some quality time with the girls and watch them as they got up in front of adult audiences to tell and read stories. I don't know that I would have done that when I was their age, and they both earned medals. I also got to show them where my wife and I lived when we first got married as well as take them to a restaurant we used to enjoy those 17 years ago.
March 5 SOTD: WD High Mountain Badger PdP Frederick's Celebrated Razor Stirling Unscented PSB The Veg I decided to go with a straight razor this morning, so I got my Frederick's Celebrated, which has been a favorite. I would rate this as a CCS, as I didn't get the closest shave on my neck. It was still fun, as I haven't used a traditional straight in a long time. I don't know why I don't use Pre de Provence more often, and I find it to be a very enjoyable soap. The scent is great in my opinion. You can't hardly beat The Veg on a Sunday morning. I hope everyone has a great day!
My shave today was about the same as yesterday. I used the WSP Pure Badger, and again loaded to much satisfaction. Tried some whacks with the 65-Slim, and worked more on getting the correct angle. For its next use I will up the power by one. I'll do two more shaves with the Russian Leather soap, but after that, I think it will be just one more round of 4(or 5) shaves with it, when it comes around again in the rotation, , and that may do it.
I don't get too many strange looks after over two years of this. She had actually gone to bed before I went into discovery mode last night but did get up and walk by the door while I had the razors held up in front of me. I got a look and a question if there was a problem. I assume she meant with the razor, not my mental state. She accepted my answer of "I think I've got it figured out" without further comment or show of concern.
The Swedish has never been my favorite of the Rapiras but it's a very good blade indeed. I suspect I would have the Ladas winning but it would be close. I'm enjoying your focus especially with my knowledge of the blades. It's fun to see how others experience the finest steel in the land.
You had a doughnut hole sighting! Just mold all of the soap back flat across the bottom, into the center. You will be surprised how many shaves you have left in there.
Stropping is still my hangup as well. I love the razors, and I love shaving with them. Stropping them.....just makes me tense, irritable and frustrated. Although, according to an ex or two that's just my normal personality.
