One day, 7 pages and 133 posts... Well this month will be focusing on riding the cap and my technique in general. But being March, I might through in some different blades and soaps.
March 1, 2017 Razor: Post-War British Gillette Tech Blade: German Wilkie (3) Brush: Cremo by Vie-Long Horsehair Soap/Cream: Mineral Fusion (pass 1), KMF fragrance-free (pass 2) I decided to start the month by revisiting the Post-War British Tech. The basic design is similar to the US one but with an Aluminium baseplate. The last time I used it, it seemed harsh though a subsequent shave using the same blade in a different razor got me wondering if I was dealing with a duff blade. The Cremo brush continues to be a challenge to master. I think this is, in part, because of its small size. The first pass lather, using a hard soap, was usable but not great. OTOH, the second pass, with a good cream, was excellent. As for the razor, the shave was better than the last time but this razor is clearly more aggressive than a US Tech. Part of the issue seems to be with finding the optimum angle; at times, it seemed like the smoothest strokes came were when I backed off riding the cap. I ended up with a comfortable DFS, though, so it's all good.
I have an idea. I will list all of the participants through the end of the month. Anyone who wants in, can pick who they think will come out on top, and a guess at the score. If somebody picks the winner, I will come up with a cool PIF. If there is a tie, whoever gets the closest to the correct score without going over wins. Open to everybody who has been here (active on the 30 day thread) at least since Feb., and I will ship Internationally. I will leave picking open until midnight Saturday.
Yes! We could judge each Shave like Olympic Diving. That would fall under "Valor", bent carriage bolt is "degree of difficulty", and so on.
March Madness & Spring Cleaning!! March 1 Razor - Fatip Piccolo Blade - (1) Soap - Stirling Barbershop Brush - Semogue 620 Post - Alum Well, here we are with another month underway. Looks like everyone is off to a good start and it should be a fun and informative month! I'm going all aggressive this month with my Fatip, New LC and 1914 Old. And, of course, pain sticks. I'll gravitate mostly to the pain sticks but on nights like this when I got out of work late and had a late start (had to watch the final episode of Taboo we recorded last night) I'll go to an aggressive DE. That could also include the Soviet Consul adjustable wide open as well. Blade for tonight is my favorite NOS blade, the Sharp Star. I received my order of 300 that has taken an unusually long time to arrive and he even included a few tucks of some other Moscow blades for free. I love my Cartel buddies. I could shave with nothing but Sharp Star and Voskhod and my growing bulk inventory of both is a testament to that. I'm at well over 800 just in those two blades and still adding. At some point Sharp Star will be unavailable and I plan on having enough of them to last the rest of my life. I chose Stirling as the soap as I continue to compare Stirling, Route 66 and Soap Commander. Barbershop scent with I like a whole lot more than I thought I would. SWMBO also approves highly so it's a win-win around here. Two passes with the highly aggressive Fatip Piccolo and a very nice DFS is the result. I skipped the last pass just to avoid irritation issues. Alum was mostly quiet so it worked. I love the way this razor works and feels. It's a bit milder than the 1914 but definitely lets you know it's in control. All in all a great start to the month! Looks like my next 240 blades will be in the mailbox tomorrow. More on those later as they are the "Spring cleaning" portion of my focus. Have a great night and a better tomorrow!
I am liking where this is going. We have two weeks for the bold, brave and brain dead to create their "razors".
I've found that if I dispense a portion into a shave bowl & punch it down with a brush, the canned foam gets more dense. Will this affect the "shaving while driving" portion of the Triathlon? I don't remember the ruling on if you have to be both the shaver & the driver...
Should sutures be a full point deduction? Ex: "It was the usual two pass automatic DFS, save for a 7cm gash on my jawline. On the bright side, we weren't late for dinner, and SWMBO liked my New AS." This would be an auto deduction. This is not an amateur crowd. Yes. And Loc-Tite is a DQ, kinda like lead filled radios is in NASCAR.
