I am approaching ninety percent range of motion, no pain left. I can type again! After 17 days is a great relief! Praise be to God that he spared me from permanent injury. I have little feeling in parts of right ring finger...but it functions normally and the docs think it will recover in a few months! So it's all good!
First off.... Thanks so much to Razorburn for the RR Lime recommendation Focus- Open Comb Razors Pre- Hot water wash Razor- Gillette New SC Blade- Gillette Silver/Blue Soap- RazoRock Lime Brush- Semogue 1305 Post- Cold water rinse and alum where needed Aftershave- RazoRock Lime and a Rose of Bulgaria splash Really enjoyed the lime soap and had a great shave! The problem solver AS is very fresh and soothing. It is a similar product to the Stirling witch hazel based aftershaves... This was he third shave with the vintage OC, and it has been solidly outperforming the Cadet. Somehow, it shaves closer, even though I feel the blade less? I have a few adjustables I want to try next month, but so far, the Gillette OC is going to replace the Tech as my daily shaver....
I have been reorganizing and updating my reference files to reduce the number of links in my signature. Here is the new overall link. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threa...es-30-day-razors-brushes-miscellaneous.43935/ All links to the 30 Day concepts are carried down one sub thread level from the overall main thread.
March Focus- Be modern, Learn to use my Feather Artist Club razor. Any touch ups with a modern DE. March 14th, SOTD (Shave 9 of the focus) One and a half day's growth Prep: Hot Shower Razor Feather Artist Club SS non-folding with Pro-Guard Blade (6th shave on blade)) Soap: The Shave Den Barber Shoppe Scent, bowl lathered Brush: Omega 1066 Boar Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, Aftershave: The Shave Den Iced Barber Shoppe Splash I think I may be getting the hang of the Feather Artist Club SS. Two pass shave today, and I didn’t do any touch up with the DE. It’s a solid CCS, and almost a DFS! I raised the angle of the head significantly, so I am more scraping my face than sliding it along sideways. It seemed to work best at not quite 90 degree, just a little bit of tilt. I am continuing to use both hands to shave, and seem to have gotten at least as good of a shave as I used to get with my Mach 3. I got one nick where I wasn’t paying attention under my lower lip. Did an WTG (N/S) pass, and did XTG on my face, neck, and chin. Only rough spots are right on the jaw line, and on the chin. I typically use more pressure in these spots with my DE, but not with this beast. Shave Den Soap and aftershave are outperforming some of my more expensive products. Alum had very little bite tonight, and the aftershave only stung because I got some in my eye. (The little one had just gone to bed, so I couldn’t even swear properly. Note to self: don’t do that again.)
March Focus - Vintage and Carbon March 14, 2015 - Week 2 Day 7 Prep - Hot shower and towel Brush - VDH Boar Soap - C.O. Bigelow Razor - '59 Superspeed (birth year) Blade - (4) Post - Cold water rinse and out the door! It's official. The Kai in the Superspeed is the BOMB!! Fourth day and this morning's shave was done half asleep after an extra long day yesterday and an extra early start today. Two passes to near perfection, cold water to wake up a bit more with the coffee and out the door I went. Even now my face feels smooth and I couldn't be happier that I discovered this blade. I will try it in a different razor or two in a couple of weeks just to see how it compares. Excellent four days though. Time out is over! Tomorrow it's the beginning of week three of Vintage and Carbon. The 46-50 Tech and Treet Silver is up next!
Hah... back to evenings, and regular shaves. My "evening" shave happened at about 06:30, as I had to get SWMBO'd wedding ring out of the jewelry store, where it had languished for two weeks, getting sized. As mama was working evenings, of course I was going to pick it up for her.... Two pass shave, and it still feels mostly good, 10 hours later! Great blade and razor!
03/15/2015 Prep – MR GLO Razor – Gillette New Long Comb Blade – Persona Lab Blue (2) Brush –Every-Ready with TGN Finest Lather – MdC Post - Witch Hazel and Dove AS Balm Really enjoying this set up. Fantastic 3 pass shave this morning. No nicks, weepers or irritation.
March Focus - Vintage and Carbon March 15, 2015 - Week 3 Day 1 Prep - Hot shower and towel Brush - Omega Pro 48 Soap - Arko Razor - '46-'50 Gillette Tech Blade - (1) Post - Alum & The Veg On to the vintage Tech and the Treet Silver. This blade is silverish, but with a blue shade that shows it is a carbon blade. Nice shave, felt very much like a carbon with good feedback, three passes to the DFS, and enough Alum feedback to make you love life! We'll see how many days it can go.
My March focus - the one-pass daily shave - is still going wonderful and I'm pleased. I find that short strokes are the key. Aces!
I used Feather last month during blade trials, yes. Found them to be rather uncomfortable, irritating, and all in all I didn't like them at all. The worst nick I've ever had was while using a Feather and the mark is still faintly visible. Since I was using the EJ89l with the Feather the difference in razors shouldn't be a huge factor. The Kai is just a smoother blade that performs a lot better for me. As always, YMMV. With that in mind, however, I have ordered a couple of Kai blades for the CJB when it arrives so I can compare them to the Feather's that are coming with the shavette.
Thanks, I too have had a rough time with Feather DE blades. I can say that I found both the Kai Mild and Sharp artist club blades to be smoother than the Feather counterparts in my Mongoose. I will most likely order some Kai DE blades at some point.
March - 30 Day Rule! SOTD for the Ides of March I may be switching to Injector as my primary razor! I am loving it! Hope everyone had a great Sunday and is geared up for a great week!
Taking a day from the New LC to use the Weber. I'm starting to get a little bit of irritation after 17 consecutive days of shaving with the LC. Prep: warm wash and Cornhusker's Lotion Lather: TSD Coconut Brush: Vie-Long 13061M horsehair Razor: Weber PH Blade: Wilkinson Sword (3) Post: Cool rinse and Old Spice Main observation - my wife seems to love the smell of Old Spice. She's commented that she likes the way I smell the last few mornings. I told her that is what she is used to smelling. She told me that Old Spice has really made a comeback at her middle school and she much prefers smelling it on the boys rather than the varieties of air clogging Axe sprays. Secondary observation - one day with the Weber and the Old Spice aftershave gave no sting. Hmmm, perhaps I enjoy that mild shave.
March Focus- Be modern, Learn to use my Feather Artist Club razor. Any touch ups with a modern DE. March 16th, SOTD (Shave 10 of the focus) One and a half day's growth Prep: Hot Shower Razor Feather Artist Club SS non-folding with Pro-Guard Blade (7th shave on blade) Soap: The Shave Den Barber Shoppe Scent, bowl lathered Brush: Omega 1066 Boar Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, Aftershave: The Shave Den Iced Barber Shoppe Splash A moment of silence please, for all of the sideburns lost through inattention. I shaved again today with just the Feather Artist Club SS, no DE touchups. Did I mention this thing is efficient? Usually, I feel some tugging if I get too close to my sideburns with a DE. This morning when I went to rinse off the razor on my ATG pass, I noticed half of one sideburn was on the razor. Whoops. I did N/S pass (WTG on my face, and mostly XTG on my neck,) then I did an S/N pass (ATG on my face, and mostly XTG on neck,) Then I lathered up and did my touch ups and ATG pass on my neck and chin. Angle and pressure seem to be key to getting a good shave with this. Only one nick, and hardly any alum burn. I am really starting to enjoy this razor. I even ordered a cover for it so I can travel with it next week. I thought this was going to be a CCS, but it came out as a DDF. If I can figure out how to shave my chin and one strip of hair on my neck, I think a BBS is possible with this razor.
03/16/15 Prep – MR GLO Razor – Gillette New Long Comb Blade – Persona Lab Blue (3) Brush – RV with Shavemac Finest Lather – MdC Post - Witch Hazel, Dove AS Balm and CC Bay Rum AS Great 3 pass shave this morning finished up with the Dove AS Balm and Captain's Choice Bay Rum. My friend gave me some Gillette 7 o'clock yellows to try so I think I will load one up and give it a try for the next several shaves.
March 16, 2015 Pre- Face wash with warm water Brush Soak- Sriracha Mug of Doom™ Razor- Ikon 102 Slant Blade- Personna (2) Soap- Mickey Lee "The Kraken" Brush- VDH boar Post- Cold water rinse, Osma Alum block, Thayers Witchhazel Aftershave- The Cool Fix balm Two and a half passes :WTG , XTG, cleanup w/ a little ATG Working on angles still. Got an ATG pass on my cheeks for the first time so far with no irritation. Still haven't attempted ATG on my neck yet, but that will come in time. The Kraken soap is just awesome. Lathers better for me than any other soap I've tried up until this point. Very clean barbershop scent, with a bit of salty air scent on the puck, but that salty scent dissipates pretty quickly once lathered, at least for me. This is quickly becoming my favorite soap. Lathers like crazy, even more so than Stirling for me, and that's saying something. I had more lather than I knew what to do with. I'm not in love with the fragrances yet though. I got the Italian Stallion as well, and did a test lather with it. Still can't decide if I'm keeping that one or not. The description sounds like something that was made especially for me, but the combination, or mixture of fragrances just hasn't grabbed me yet. Snagged the Cool Fix based on a recommendation from my best friend. Works great for me. Treats ingrown hairs and redness both. Not cheap, but you only need a little each time. The bottle shown was $11.50. Happier and happier with my progress so far! Plus, The Kraken looks cool too.
