I have had a quiet couple of shaves, which makes for a boring focus post, but a happy face. So far I am glad I decided to revisit open combs. Lineup is the same with the exception of switching back to Gillette Silver/Blues. Pre- Hot wash with glycerin soap Razor- Cadet OC Blade- Gillette Silver/Blue Soap- Arko Stick Brush- Semogue 1305 Post- Cold water rinse and alum where needed Aftershave- Kramparts Bay Rum This weekend I will be done with my 30 days using Arko, and next week I will switch to a different OC. I will than at least get to post a few more pics
Good luck and have fun. You'll be amazed looking back after 30 days how far you've come. Don't get discouraged or be afraid to ask questions.
Fortunately I was working from home on Tuesday, but my boss asked what happened to my neck when I came into the office on Wednesday. You know its bad when other people notice.
DAY 4 - COLD WATER MENTHOL MARCH! Prep: shower and Noxzema face wash Growth: 1 day Razor: Gillette Tech Blade: Yellow Gillette 7 O'clock Preshave: Stirling Orange Chill Preshave oil Soap: Stirling Orange Chill Passes: 2.5 - WTG, ATG - XTG on neck - with clean up Post shave: Stirling Orange Chill Witch Hazel with Aloe Post shave: Stirling Post Shave balm - barbershop Had some extra time this morning, so I chased a bbs on my neck and my question to the group is: which one of these items pictured below was most important this morning?
My lather was so good, I added a fourth pass today, thus changing up my planned routine a bit. I hope I'm not out of the club.
I vote..... OUT!!! If we allow this, it becomes a short train ride to allowing cartridges, canned foam and guys shaving their cats.... Yes..... I am kidding. It was worth it to fit in a cat shaving reference
Please don't be discouraged from your experience with the Feather Artist Club Razor. I had a similar start with mine when I first used it last year. When I picked it up again in February, I had a rough shave or two with it then as well. When you decide to pick it back up, you might consider only a single pass for awhile. It won't be as close as you like, but it will give you and your skin time to adjust. You'll know when you can add a few touch-ups and eventually a second pass without feeling any pain. I finally conceded that a comfortable one-pass shave was better than a painful multi-pass shave. Under my nose and around my chin are still my two most difficult areas. My lower neck is pretty sensitive as well. By the end of last month, I was able to have a close and comfortable two-pass shave. The third pass started to irritate my skin a bit. I have to do three or four slow, careful, and very gentle passes under my nose and around my chin to achieve the smoothness that I want. The biggest benefit for me is that I can now shave with any of my DEs and get a super-close and comfortable shave. The Feather helped me improve my overall shaving technique significantly. The Merkur 37C that I'm using now is a cake walk compared to the Feather. I occasionally used different razors in February when I wasn't up to using the Feather. That's the cool thing about having a bunch of razors to choose from, right? I'm sure you'll eventually reach your goals with the Feather. It took me many months, and I'm still not where I'd like to be with mine. The main thing for me is to keep learning and having fun along the way. I'm pullin' for ya!
03/05 - Day 5 dialing in the Slim: I adjusted the settings on the Slim this morning and they seemed to have improved the shave. Only a two pass plus touchup resulted in a really comfortable DFS. I can’t tell much difference between Pinaud Clubman Original and the Musk, but I like them both. Growth: 1 day Prep: Shower; Corn Huskers Lotion Lather: Valobra shave stick Brush: Escali Badger Razor: 1964 Gillette Slim (3,2,4 for chin touchup) Blade: Voshkod (3) Post: Alum; Pinaud Clubman Musk
I've never thought Barbershop scents were "old man." Pinaud Clubman makes me think grandpa. Maybe Old Spice, too.

March Focus - Vintage and Carbon March 5, 2015 - Week 1 Day 5 Prep - Hot shower and towel Brush - Omega Pro 48 Soap - Arko Razor - Gillete New Long Comb Blade - (1) Post - RazoRock Alum & Clubman Early start, late finish to catch up. Well since the Treet Double Edge gave up the ghost after 4 shaves (with some rust to show for its efforts) I followed my March plan and loaded a blade I've never tried before. The Lord Platinum from Egypt. Finished with a DFS after three passes and enough irritation from the alum to make me wish I had the carbon blade back. Seriously, it seems the only platinum blades that like my face are Indian or Russian by Mostochlegmash. However, trying new blades in between the carbons is part of the deal so I'll live with this one until Sunday morning when I switch razors and load a new carbon blade. The Lord did fine with the actual shave, just can't stand the level of irritation over the long haul. Trying all of the different blades is a risk, so I just hope I end up smarter than Sylvester!
I remember the first time I heard about paid television as a kid and thinking how absurd that sounded.
