Yesterday I had maybe one of my best shaves. '62 Gillette SS Flare Tip with a Personna Lab Blue Caties Bubble Ocean Grove RR Three Color Plissoft Floid Blue My face and head were so smooth and soft I wanted to bottle this shave up and use it again. It's very interesting that I've spent a lot of money on razors and when it comes down to me picking a favorite it's a $20 Gillette SS Flare Tip.
As soon as I clean the rusty blade remains out of it. I open the razor last night and the blade fell out in rusty pieces. Some of it is still stuck to the baseplate and will get scrubbed out tonight. I will shave with it in the morning
I originally thought you might need a stitch, it healed up really nicely. You may have a scare and a story.
Some of my best shaves have been with my '61 Flare Tip and a Feather blade. This razor was my first vintage purchase and I would have a lot more money if I had stopped there
Thanks. I know my wife has a story You have no idea what a bloody mess that morning was. I'm fortunate that it is healing so nicely.
Today's shave was a bust. The Derby was up to bat but my dog (who is tall enough to reach shelves that the kids can not) decided she just had to knock down and chew on my tuck of Derby blades. she didn't hurt herself but my Derbys are dented very badly and were binned as a result. So I loaded up the next blade on the list The Blendax Hurt Hinge Blendax Arko VdH boar Citrus Musk This setup lasted about 3 strokes. The first WTG stroke was painful. I checked my angle, added a bit of water to the lather just in case and tried again. Still hurt. Ok big guns. I tilted the razor and added some slide so the hairs would cut easier, Still hurt so I binned the blade and pulled out The Angry Russian. Angry Russian Sharp Star (1) Arko VdH Boar Citrus Musk I relathered the bit I attempted to shave and started my WTG pass. I ended up checking to see if the blade was in because it was so comfortable. The first pass blew by quickly so I relathered and started ATG for a 2 pass shave. I still couldn't feel the blade and, the baby waddled in. The Pinaud was completely silent and I found a new favorite blade. The dog also decided that I didn't need my leftover steak taco I had scratch made last night either so now I'm wondering what to eat for lunch. I keep wondering if dog tastes more like chicken or beef. She's in her kennel until I eat then she'll be let out.
I can get both around here if you need some, here Walmart sells the VDH Deluxe and my local Walgreens sells the VDH Luxury, Or vice a versa.
I'm not sure about Irish Spring with a paintrush but I can lather Lava with a small basting brush. I mounted one in a hand turned pink ivory handle. I think its something like 10 or 12 mm at the base.
This was before the sanding was done and the basting brush was glued in. I think I set it deeper too. I would take a picture of it now but I can't find my phone.
