    I'll be ready!

I will also say that I skipped my shave this morning. Something about a wedge blade at the wrong angle and not taped to a finger securely leaving bloody divots on my face and jaw bone before I finally quit. My jaw and chin are actually painful this morning.

I will take the safe (for Mayhem) route on my next shave and use the DEvette. @Shave Fu, you will love this one. Its shaped like a DE, but the safety bar has been removed, so it is open blade. You have to find the right angle, and not dig it into your face. It gave me a fantastic shave last time I used it.

30 days and that is all you used????

And they call me frugal. WOW!! I think we all WAAAAYY under guessed the duration. I could have doubled my guess to about 160 and I think will still be underestimating. For some reason, I doubt you look as lathered as the dude on the wrapper :).

Enjoy the experience. I bet we will all be waiting to hear it be stated that the stick is done. We might have taken a long winter's nap in between though :)

The central point of your comment leads me to a better understanding of my own style. If the center of attention is not a particular hub point of hardware, or you pivot around a selection of software, the nucleus of your shave is the shave itself. To make the heart of the experience the whole experience rather than looking too deeply at the core removes the cornerstone allowing a bigger view. Of course the linchpin of the idea is drawing me to suggest a CT. If I can focus on something that would be appropriate...

My focus for this focus is to be unfocused and keep my spectacles for these spectacles you all partake in this focus from detering me from my focus.
Simply put, I cannot bare the sight of all the blood this month will ensue.

    Best of luck gang!

May 1 - Lots of soap!!!

    Merkur 34C
    Gillette Platinum
    20mm AOS Pure Badger
    DIY PSO
    TOBS Sandalwood
    Alum/Thayers/Nivea

For my first bit of mayhem, I will do the one this that I hold hardest to do - Use a LOT of soap. Just saying it makes me nauseous. With my experiences with the Box and other soaps, sometimes more makes it easier to hit a water sweet spot and I find the lather richer and better all around.

It has been some time since I used my TOBS sandalwood cream so today, it will be used. With shaken hand, I grabbed my brush and swirled it in the cream until it was totally covering the knot. It looked like those lather shots but no lather was created yet. I proceeded to add water which started to feel like this soap would never get enough. Lather was spilling over the bowl but I pushed on trying to catch it all before lost to the drain.

No lather shots exist in part because I am still in the shower and any site of me naked would blind all of you. The result, an overflowing bowl of slick thick and creamy lather.

I decided to PSO only one side of my face. Not sure I am glad I did. The soap was still wanting more water, but only a little and I found the un-oiled side to sting a bit. Loving the sandalwood scent, I did 4 passes that I thought were extremely light. I anticipated this to be a sting free shave. As soon as the alum contacted skin, the fire ensued. My face felt lit up like the East River on the 4th of July! For a very smooth shave, I felt as if all technique went out the window. Even now, 6 hours later, my skin feel tender. Could it be, I am having a reaction to TOBS?

In the end, blade felt good but will need to decide if it was the soap or the blade that irritated. I did add oil to the unoiled side and I think, it started feeling better. Also, after the 2nd pass, I added more water, having made room in the bowl for even more lather and it felt lighter but still slick and cushiony.

In the end, I had enough lather AFTER shaving for 8 more passes. I covered my self with the remainder just to enjoy the scent. TOBS is really good stuff and I do love their sandalwood scent.

So there you have it, fireworks for the beginning of MAYhem.

30 more days of frivolous soap usage. Not sure I will make it.

I have a DEvette as well and got a very nice shave with it last year. I'll have to dig it up.

My first MAY shave had no HEM in it whatsoever. Pretty standard stuff. Slim on 3 with 3 day old feather, razorock lime, whipped dog high mountain brush, CC beta AS samples. Here is what was notable. 1. The whipped dog is reviewed by many as "a bit floppy". If you are a hard core boar guy (which I'm not), maybe. For me, the high mountain knot is quickly becoming my all time favorite knot by a wide margin. I may have to break it out of the original handle and marry it up with one of my favorite handles and create a wunderbrush. Love, love, love this knot. 2. I really don't have much experience with splashes, as moisturizing balms have been my go to so far, and the standard splashes (lucky tiger, proraso, clubman, fine, etc.) haven't really blown me away. The Captains Choice Cherry samples now have my attention. Cherry CC and pineapple Stirling aftershaves may be in my future. 3. I tried eliminating the XTG pass doing a WTG, ATG, and cleanup. Worth trying, but I learned that adding the XTG pass was actually providing some benefit, and giving me better results. The three shave pass seems to be a "go to" for lots of people for a reason. Could I get away with 2? Yeah, but there are a lot of things I could "get away with" that are worth the extra effort to do right.

The month is young Adam. Be patient. We're all kinda "shock and awed" by your last stunt. I'm just trying to get my bearings back before Saturday comes. Besides, I can recognize when the lead lemming is barking at me from a mile away. Eventually, the draw of the cliff is just too strong...

Oh geez! I read Franks response to the original post, and attributed it to the original post, which is where the "Frugal" part came from. I retract my submission to the court. Somebody else needs to chime in here. C'mon, don't leave me hangin'!
