    Today this came

    20190514_001847.jpg

It is a GD208, a $12 razor. One can sometimes expect to get what they paid for. It is bent. There is a warp in the blade. The scales are pinned crooked. It will cut paper in the middle, but not the ends. There was a steel shard still hanging on the heel. Exactly what I was looking for.......to test out my abilities using my new convex surfaced Arkansas stones.

After looking at it, I could never recommend it to anyone who wants to learn open edge shaving.

Plenty of people around here started open edge shaving with shavettes. It is a reasonable option for the budget minded.

I recommend this one. Focus R21 Evolution.

I have 2 of them. They are about $20. They handle well, have a nice weight, can use blades you probably already have. No stropping, no honing, never a question on the quality of your edge. For me, they outshave even my best straights. I have heard it called a mild shavette because of the recessed blade position and blade corner guards.
    Here are some pics.

This shaving device carries the Max Headroom recommendation and can be had for about $20.

One can be successful with a small amount of extra caution.

    Be well.

Wow. Thanks for pointing out the problems with the GD208. It will provide a test of your honing skills. Good luck.

I stopped by the post office on the way in to work this morning. I was pretty excited and wanted to get this in my hands as soon as possible.

The packaging with a wax seal was a nice touch.

I can’t wait to give this a try tomorrow. Now I need to decide; safety bar or open comb.

    Feather Pro Guard
    Darwin 'Classic' AS

Today felt like a shavette day. 2 passes to an incredible DFS. I'll have to further my honing technique on the Puma. Extra half pass on my neck wasn't necessary as the Feather Pro Guard is quite the edge. Both hands used, front and back sides as necessary for trimming around nose and mouth. No weepers, snags or crimson issues to report. I did cheat...where I cut myself Sunday with the Puma, left side of neck, I purposely left the area to my electric foil razor. Didn't want to risk any compromise of the healing.

The Drake worked incredible with the AoS cream today. Between the Feather sharpness and the AoS cream, quite a smooth experience. The Olibanum + Pepper is a new 'trial' scent they called it. Fragrance is citrus-y.... Wifey loved it when we were shopping, and it was a great deal when purchasing with the Oud cream and cologne.

Lastly, the AS today is from Darwin, an artisan blend, 'Classic' it's called. Quite nice, sweet and citrus-y also, but light and unobtrusive. Reminds me of Mandarin oranges. It was an impulse purchase along with the Drake badger. It comes in the vintage bottle shown (he has many options), sealed with a cork, then waxed over.

Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday!

The family is out hunting seashells. I lost interest pretty quick. I'm laying in a hammock under a tree. What a great morning![IMG]

Good morning. Great shave this morning. 2nd go on the Rapira. Very smooth, no blood. I'm really enjoying these blades. I'm guessing Voskhod translates to blood or bleeding in English. I love Arko. Such a great soap. I seem to prefer the cheap soaps that have been around a while.
I quit drinking over 8 years ago and am pretty sure I've been looking for a hobby ever since. I've tried everything. I'm so grateful to have found wet shaving and such a great community.
I absolutely love wet shaving and what used to be a chore is now a favorite part of my day. And now possibly starting to collect and use vintage shavers is just icing on the cake.
    Happy shaving gents [IMG][IMG][IMG]
