First shave using Voskhod blades. Very nice. Seems sharper than the Astra. Comfortable shave. Good thing because I bought 100. The derby face lathered better with the boar. I think it needed the backbone. Next time I face lather with the badger, I might try choking up on it as recommended by geofatboy in a video. Payday tomorrow which means soap ordering time. Tabac, derby, and maybe some Humphreys citrus witch hazel to try. Also gotta order some Cafe de Fuzzy. Want to try that chicory coffee. Happy shaving gents. [IMG]

Impressed, that is a horrible blade in a horrible razor but you got an OK shave out of them.... well at least the face shavee.

    Yes, it is from France.

    Good news!

Great minds think a like, see my next post. Is the knot 100% broken in? Mine is :)

My thoughts and prayers are with you. You are having a tough go of it this year.

That's good reports from both you and Neal @NCoxSTL. Rather than wade back through last months nearly 8K post, got a link for the vendor?
Technique trumps tools, except when the tools are defective. The 30 DC has seen several versions of the disposable kami razor. Don't think any were worthy of reordering.

Today's EDBIO is one of my favorites, the handle is by Jason @jtspartan with an Omega Pro knot. The knot is broken in and is a pleasure to use, the brass ferrule is also getting some patina.

I am still not decided on the Noble Otter, it is very slick and produces a very wet lather which is good for straights. On the other hand I find it easy to add too much water and have to keep going back to the tub.

    Irritation A+ Closeness A Smoothness A+ Sharpness A+

Razor: Nichiri Real Japanese Hollow Ground
    Strop: Tony Miller
Brush: Handle by Jason Omega Pro knot
    Pre: Proraso
    Soap: Noble Otter
AS: Florida Water AS, Stirling ASB
    Scent: Chanel Pour Monsieur

My feelings, too. I haven't tried Derby, but other budget priced soaps (ARKO, Palmolive, Williams, and the like) seem to be built for coarse boar bristle lathering. Save the badger knots for the fancy creams and cologne scented soft soaps.

Or you might consider prehydrating the soap to soften it for an easier badger brush loading.

Speick and La toja are on the list too, probably before Mitchell's and Taylors. I think I'm just going with the tabac stick.

Gary - Good looking set up! Is the copper bowl developing a patina? I looked up the ingredients on that soap.

Stearic Acid, Beef Tallow, Goats Milk, Shea Butter, Potassium Hydroxide, Kokum Butter, Mango Butter, Glycerin, Cocoa Butter, Castor Oil, Manteca (Pig Fat), Strangisto Giaourti (strained yogurt), Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil, Camellia Oil from Japan, Sodium Hydroxide, Lanolin, Agave, Bentonite Clay, Beeswax, Sodium Lactate, Argan Oil, Fragrance & EO's.

Guessing it doesn't dry the skin like an ARKO lather? More than a dozen butters and oils! Is it more complex than a Cella marzipan scent?
