Tuesdays have unofficially become a day to use Tabac. So, being someone who doesn't like to
buck tradition, I went with the German staple.
What I have discovered is that if a razor does not easily rinse free of soap under running water,
the soap has not been properly hydrated. This test will work with all razors.
That was the case today with Tabac. The soap is so easy to load, especially after a light bloom,
that adding more water than you think can be needed.
What are the consequences of lather that is under-hydrated?
For me, the slickness is number 1. Water is our best friend and we need to not fear using too much.
The worst that can happen is that we need to go back to the puck.
So today's shave with the Portland was very good, even with some under-hydrated Tabac.
BTW, by the time I got to the ATG pass, the hydration was perfect.
The Portland 4/8 is my narrowest razor and for some reason, I have more difficulty wielding it
than I do my 5-6/8 blades.
Is finding the angle more challenging.
Does it simply need a refreshening.
Primo must ponder.
Nevertheless, the results were very good, except around the chin, which were a little rough.
Alum/Thayer's resolved that issue.
Big splash of the Tabac AS completed the shave.
This bottle is almost empty and will be replaced when depleted.​

 

Well, Mrs. Gulch's response is better than Mrs. Norcal's. She usually shoots me a look very similar to the one you posted of Mrs. Gulch a while back. Then lots of comments about not being smart and what kind of example am I setting for the kids. Something about us trying to teach the kids they don't need to do stupid things just because their friends are doing stupid things, or at least something to that effect.

 

Thanks Clint. I thought about that and I will give it a try. My Stiring soaps were stacked directly under the M & M and they are fine. It is not an environmental issue. Something has went wrong with this soap. I know Primo @Primotenore had an issue with his due to granulars. M & M is starting to concern me. I hope these are isolated problems.

 

Sounds like some great progress on the honing, Blair!

 

My "opinion" of Murphy & McNeil soaps is well-known. There is NO excuse for this gooey product.
