Thanks Joe! Mind you, it is a smaller representation of my razor minus the intricate tangwork.

Yet another good choice--bling out a razor too much, and your eye doesn't know where to settle. :D

Thank you Gary! The PAA Black Label may be the 1st tub I finish other than Proraso or ToBS...

That is so true! Concentration is key when straightshaving. I also didn't want to get a near wedge with that wide a blade because it would be too heavy for me. It would also be harder to strop and hone and that is why I chose a half hollow. Besides, when I am shaving, I like audio feedback and near wedges do not provide it.

Fantastic shave, Keith--the etching on that Dovo is really cool. First Snow, fare thee well! :D

The Merry Mixed Up Month of May!

    May 18

    Razor - Soviet "Soyuz 1"
    Blade - [IMG]
    Soap - Stirling Orange Chill
    Brush - Stirling Finest Badger
    Post - Alum

Another Monday in the books and another chance to give the Soyuz 1 and Dorco Titan a run. No change in the hardware. But, it's MENTHOL MONDAY so I'll change to Stirling Orange Chill for this Monday and use the Finest Badger brush to make the lather. Still the best badger at the price. Hands down. Took my time with the loading and face lathered to perfection. Grabbed this piece of Soviet engineering with its South Korean engineered blade and went to work. Took my time on three passes, making sure the angle was right and I got a better result than last night. Still a near-BBS but the alum was quieter. In spite of some blade chatter and unevenness, yes, this razor will perform when needed if you possess the patience to learn it. If I remember, I've had this razor for almost the whole time the 30DC has been around, or at least most of it. It's been used more than most probably would be, but it's just a fun thing to do.

Interesting aside for those who don't know - Dorco is a major player in blade and razor manufacturing, and supplies the razors for Dollar Shave Club. I was a member there for about a year before starting down the traditional path. At one point I ordered directly from Dorco and didn't do the membership thing just because it was cheaper. Can't say they don't have good products. Just not top shelf. I will say the blade is still as sharp as it started out and I was able to smooth things out a bit.

Hope you had a great start to the week and that your Tuesday is even better!
