    DE Shave # 401

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: RazoRock GC .84 JAWS
    Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
Brush: Sawdust Creation Studio Old Cahaba
    Lather: Ginger’s Garden Snow Bliss
    Aftershave: Proraso Menthol and Eucalyptus
    Additional Care:
    Stirling Alum Block
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm
    Thayer’s Witch Hazel - Original

Happy Mother’s Day gentlemen. This morning’s shave featured the debut of the GC .84 JAWS. I did my usual three pass shave, although I easily could have been satisfied after the second pass. I just enjoy the process. There is something to be said for the quiet time wet shaving affords you in the den.

I am not sure if it was Daniel, @MrDaniel's, or Gary, @Hogie, asked for my thoughts once I shaved with the JAWS for a comparison between the R42 and the JAWS. Both are classified as an Aggressive razor on the Italian Barber website. Below is a list of RazoRock razors and their classification:
    58213F61-D80E-430B-BCAE-5DC206C45273.jpg
Additionally, IB offers a list of razors by other manufacturers and their classification:

    MILD:
    1. Wilkinson
    2. Feather Popular
    3. Rockwell 6s (#1)

    MILD-MEDIUM:
    4. Fatip Testina Gentile
    5. Rockwell 6S (#2/#3)
    6. Parker 23L
    7. Parker 96R
    8. Merkur 25C Comb
    9. Edwin Jagger EJ89
    10. Muhle R89

    MEDIUM:
    11. Merkur 23C
    12. Merkur 34C/38C
    13. Rockwell 6S (#4)
    14. Parker 71R/92R
    15. Parket 55-SL
    16. Rex Envoy

    MEDIUM-AGGRESSIVE:
    17. Fatip OC
    18. Parker 24C/26C
    19. Rockwell 6S (#5)
    20. Merkur 37C Slant
    21. Merkur 39C Slant
    22. Fatip Lo Storto

    AGGRESSIVE:
    23. Muhle R41
    24. Rockwell 6S (#6)
    25. Merkur Futur Adjustable (#6)

Both razors, while aggressive, offer up a phenomenal shave provided you respect the process. Each offer a noticeable blade feel. I would give the greater blade to the JAWS. I realize my R41 is not the famed 2011 version but the later model. I wonder how the JAWS would compare to the 2011. Danny, @Hembree, @Primotenore or anyone else feel free to chime in if you can offer any opinions.

It's always nice to find something that works efficiently. It gets harder to choose which razor to pick from my collection for the daily shave with so many that I really like! :signs002:

awesome shave with the jaws Joe.i often wonder about getting one but it may upset my gillette apple cart..so i'm in the "if it works don't muck with it"mode..;):eatdrink047:

I would agree that it needs a bit of work. The concern would be if there is a lot of putting near the edge then honing it may not allow for an acceptable edge. Myself, being an extreme novice in the restoration of blades, would thinking that the areas with the chips along the edge either near to be grounded down or flat knife a bit. Not sure if it is worth the effort. You can keep stalking the “bay” for razors in better condition.

I am looking and doing some research on honing and stropping. I wasn't planning on buying this blade. I just was amazed at what they try to sell. Plus there is aLOT of fake "Damascus Steel" out there that was chemically treated to make the pattern. Not a true layered, hammered knife. I am seeing how it may be a nice challenge but I also see the pitfalls of doing something wrong. Frowning or grinning blade for one if not careful. I am kinda contemplating it...:kar:

when i fell in the rabbit hole ..:D..after 100+ or so,i realized i should stick with one brand ;)..thankfully gillette shaves are mostly similar, reliable, hold their value and scratch my easily bored itch.if i had gotten into straights oh boy..just one more,..:scared011:then there's the stones..
i kept 3 valet se and 3 injectors..they keep the "something different" urge in order..:)

Fabulous shave and write up Jeff. So if I understood you correctly you did not strop the razor for today’s shave but instead used it following a nine pass on the Suehiro?

I have looked a some vintage/restored razors too. This one selling for $180 at Razor Emporium. Is it worth this much? It sure is pretty!

Fabulous shave Hogie. I have been tempted to get the original Razorine for several years. I just have not pulled the trigger.
